Hove actually
I thought they played well against Palace and just couldn’t turn it into a win. It’s not as if that hasn’t happened to us. Poor by Liverpool standards last night but they will probably turn it around end of September/beginning of October.

But a 5 point gap at this level is quite large. They may turn it round by the end of September but Citeh or Arsenal (or us) could be 9 or 10 points clear by that time.

Quietly amused at how any sense of perspective on this thread (and certain other threads...) has gone completely out of the window after three games of a thirty eight game season

In what way?

Man City have a seven point lead over the club closest to them for the past 4 seasons. Nobody seriously thinks WE are challenging do they?

Maybe, say, Arsenal finally found their groove? And Liverpool will be right up there top three by ten games in. Probably much earlier. Albion could be anything really. Flying high on confidence at the moment obviously, and long may it last

The fact that Newcastle had Citeh at 3-1 and St Maximin ran their defence ragged all match gives hope to the rest of the Prem.

Walker is ageing and can go missing on the counter, Ake and Stones are prone to mistakes, no one knows how good the new left back will be so - defensively - there are big question marks.

That is countered in part by the acquisition of Haaland, who is an absolute beast and nailed on to be the Prem's top scorer if he stays fit.

I think Arsenal look very good, Spurs have improved, Liverpool will get the injured back in time, while there are plenty of teams that will give Citeh a decent game. The title race is not over.

Not sure about that as the last 4 games Man City have gone 2 goals down, they haven't actually lost. I know it's early days and Arsenal have started well but they've had a favourable opening 3 fixtures (great time to play Palace away, Leicester in flux, and Bournemouth are shit anyway). Spurs and Arsenal won't seriously have designs on the top spot. Liverpool might claw back 7 points over 35 games but I think that gap might get bigger before it gets smaller.

Any notion that "the title race is over" halfway through August is absolute BUMWASH, particularly as we have an absolutely unprecedented 6 week break in the middle of the season. Nobody knows what state most of the squads will be in when they players come back from that.

So, you're saying there's a chance?

The title race isn't "over", but yes, these number correspond the the perceived chances in my head as well. Not over, but it sort of is

The gap is 5 points between City and Liverpool.

I agree though, that gap could easily get bigger. Liverpool looked quite ordinary yesterday against a bang average Man Utd side. A couple of key players out, or MIA, and they really don't look like the team they've been over the last few seasons.

Arsenal are currently in their quarterly "pretend-to-be-finally-finding-their-groove" phase. It will blow over.

They’ve also not played anyone decent. Leicester are going backwards and as for the other two…..
