We might be willing to pay that cut price, bit the player might not agree to come to us for half - or even a third or a quarter - of their existing wage. So we don't get a bargain, and Chelsea have to go on paying them several £million a year......... and of course, Chelsea paying off their contract so the player could 'afford' to live on £40 or £50K a week for three or four years wouldn't help their FFP situation.

It really is a lose-lose situation - even the player will lose by having to stay at Chelsea for five or six years!

They are also very dodgy with the ownership group.

This should be a huge opportunity for us. Clubs that simply have to sell by a certain deadline or face points deductions are in no position to drive a hard bargain. We could pick up some really good players for reasonable prices.

I think this is the main reason why we held back a bit during the January window...there will be loads more opportunities come June.

In the last premier league season, according to this https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/chelsea-premier-league-wage-bill-30054153 Leicester's wagebill was double ours. I'm under the impression relegation clauses for wages are quite rare. So I wouldn't be surprised if he is on more than we like to offer (his last deal was signed in 2022).

But it's not just that, we're not the only team that will be trying to get deals. We won't compete with Spurs, Arsenal or Liverpool for wages. There were rumours Arsenal made it clear they would be interested in signing him in the summer.

I've seen a bit about the new rules coming in/being voting on and Everton fans crying they are changing the rules now.

Isn't it a case of the rules becoming tougher and more inline with UEFA?

Everton were ulitmately deducted 6 points for a 20m excess. I wouldn't be surprised if that becomes a precedent - ie 1 point for every 3.33m overspend.

Though that's a precedent for a club that was considered to have cooperated with the investigation and that was agreed to have mitigating circumstances on appeal.
Could be looking at a "standard" point per £2m.
For an aggravated case maybe 70 points per £100m, enough to move from champions to relegation in any season.

Very interested to see how Villa plays out.

Also interesting that there's likely to be an unofficial transfer window at the end of June with several clubs having to sell by June 30th and a very limited pool of clubs able to buy unhindered by PSR.

I exclude us from this as I don't see us buying a first team player from Villa due to wages. Could see us looking at picking up a prospect though
