Nonsense. The "stats" are that he scores 1 in 2 for us.

Actually, the stats say he averages a goal every other game. It's entirely different to scoring a goal every other game.

He has had 29 starts and only scored in nine games.
He has had 7 sub appearance, which on last count averaged 20mins each, and scored in none of them.

20 starts and 7 sub appearances in which he didn't do what he was hired to do, score goals.

But stats can be misleading, can't they?

You're being intentionally annoying. You knew full well what I meant. He has a record of scoring 1 in 2.

Oh yes, thats precisely how these stats work isn't it... you know.... when they put them below a players name in the middle of a game :glare:

What sort of twat bothers to score more than one in a game, totally pointless if Acker79 doesn't count it in his personal statistic keeping isn't it! :dunce:

It's annoying to point out how stats can be misleading and presented in any number of ways to support arguments?

Just like some people put FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR too much stock in stats.

I have no problem with people scoring more than one goal in a game, I like it, I want as many of our players to score as many goals as they can in as many games as they can.

Dear me.

When people say "he's got a record of 1 in 2", they don't LITERALLY mean they score every other game then always DON'T score in the other game.

It's commonly used phraseology, as I think you well know. It seems you were (for whatever reason) looking for a chance to be pedantic.

I wasn't "being pedantic" I was taking part in the discussion. I was highlighting how the initial comment on stats wasn't necessarily the "nonsense" you claimed it was, and showed how the stats show it.

You can't question one person's appraisal of stats, present your own in a way that is misleading* and then cry pedantry when someone challenges it, providing alternate data.

*even if you feel you are following tradition - I remember watching ssn cover the goal scoring rates of ronaldo, messi and rooney and remember them being careful to differentiate between averaging and scoring, and have vague memories of commentators correcting themselve when saying 'score' by mistake. It is a distinction that needs to be made as the use of stats in football coverage increases, and seeing coverage on TV it appears as if there are efforts to make the distinction.

I know the thread is which 3 players to keep but for me we need to keep the core of the team.....

Brezovan, Painter, Elphick, El-Abd (never thought I would say it), Crofts, Dicker, Bennett, Murray

......and then kick on from here with some new additional Gus stylie signings! Has he made a duff one yet?
