On the terraces!!
does it need to be re-looked at and possibly changed due to increased security at grounds these days?

i for one am not a fan of the new type of footie stadiums. Especially ones like Reading, Leicester, Saints etc...its just a f***ing boring oval bowl.
Complete lack of atmosphere.

When you look at old games from the 80's the grounds looked like they were about to burst - its f***ing great.

These days there are rows and rows of gaps between fans and its just a sit down, shut up, dont smoke, dont drink, dont sing, dont look at the other fans BOLLOX!

and breathe!!

Unfortunately the Taylor report came about after a ground did 'burst'. So although I share your views on the lack of atmosphere I can see why there was a need to change things.
It should certainly be looked at again now that the the emotional dust has settled over the Hillsborough tragedy.

I would definitely agree that the government needs to take another proper look at terracing. It was got rid very hastily, after the Hillsborough disaster as at the time a lot of public opiniion supported getting rid of them.

It has been shown that terracing can be safe in Germany who won the right to host the world cup with terracing in their grounds.

Unfortunately I can't see them coming back in this country for a while/ever, however maybe campaigns like www.standupsitdown.co.uk, where the idea is to stand behind a designated seat will be looked at.

Yes. The report itself says that there is nothing intrinsically unsafe about standing accomodation, but I can't see the FLA ever sanctioning a return to terracing in the high divisions.

I don't think terraces are actually allowed to be used at the World Cup. Some German stadiums have a design that can convert a standing area into a seating area if need be.

On the terraces!!
i feel really sorry for anyone connected to the Hilsboro disaster...but i dont feel that it was juts terracing which casued it. The police, stewarding and badly designed fences were a huge factor. Destroying terracing was a knee jerk reaction and now the FA seem to have blinkers on.

fair enough they can charge more for seats...but you can get twice as many people on a terrace. (on footballgroundguide.co.uk is sayes the Kop once held 28,000!!)
I would even be happy to pay the same price as it is for a seat..to stand on a terrace if that was the only hold back.

i think they are ruining a massive part of the game and taking the game away from the fans with these souless grounds cropping up everywhere (except Brighton!!)

I agree I would pay the same price to stand as I do to sit, it would help the atmosphere at all grounds. If it is done safely, as in incorporating ideas from germany, then it could be safer then seating, even more so if sitting down is not to be strictly enforced.

Police would have a problem with it.

People are much easier to identify in all seater stadium.

That isn't my view, just what I been told.

This is a safe standing section of Werder Bremen's ground.

With a crash barrier between every step and a low fence at the front of the stand, it is easy to see that nothing like Hillsborough could ever happen.

The economics prohibit terracing ever coming back. The cost to change seating styles to implement similar schemes such as the picture above would render it a non starter.

Plus why revery to terracing where people will want to pay less, when you can get someone to fork out more for a seat. In my opinion it needed more clubs to hold back in redevelopment for us to stand any chance of a return to the glory days.

The joys of standing next to your mates. Great days!

except that the land needed to enable the German "Kombi" system expands the stadium area so much that it effectively precludes it from being used in the UK. It actually uses less land to convert a stadium from terracing to all seater (as we all saw at Luton recently). Which means that clubs have not needed to move grounds as a result of the Taylor report _ Old Trafford, Anfield WWhite Hart Lane, Goodison Park, st James's Park, Highbury, stamford bridge, why even priefield - all succecssfully converted to all seaster without needing the cluib to move in the process.

Otherwise clubs would have to relocate (and we all know how chap and easy that is)

Terracing will never come back while the clubs can fleece the fans for seats.

If we go down there will be teracing so theres a silver lining.

I joined stand up sit down a year ago but things seem to have gone quiet on that front for a while, anybody had a news lwtter lately from them?

Would be a feckin pain if they did make you sit down in them though - a bloody metal bar at perfect eye-height in front of you!
