Anyone had a tax rebate that was sent to a third party company for processing,so I had a supposed rebate due for tax year 20-21,£2560,Gov.uk,sent this to The Tax Returned company to pay out, they've put in my bank account £1656,the rest of which are supposed fees! I mean really! Thus far I've had no reply as to why they've taken out all this Dosh for themselves,I'm not spending a penny of what they sent, just interested if anyone has had a rebate farmed out to a company like this.

Have you used a tax refund company before ? If so, you may have signed a form asking them to pursue future clams for you.

https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money...argeted-party-rebate-agents-big-cut-cash.html

The tax office either automatically rebate directly to you, or process a claim to you. They don't use third parties- unless you have agreed to it, inadvertently or not.

To my knowledge I've not given any such permission for a company to fleece my tax rebate,I had a smaller rebate paid into my bank the previous year by GOV.UK,so can't figure it out Ian.

What type of tax has been refunded?

If it's Income Tax the usual process is for the tax-payer to complete a Self Assessment [by 31-Jan for previous tax year] - if you've overpaid Income Tax they will refund the full overpayment amount back to your account of choice [used to send cheques].

SA's are not for everyone - usually HMRC will request you complete one [all online now] if you are self-employed, company director or other unusual income [e.g. property landlord] - i.e. income that does not have income tax deducted at source

I had never heard of them before so just out of interest I googled Trusrpilot reviews about them. It seems once you use them, you agree to an ongoing contract with them until you cancel. It may not help you now, but I suggest you cancel now just to avoid their ongoing involvement with any tax that may be due back to you in the future.

You must have signed up with them at some point - essentially appointing them to handle your tax reclaim. They charge 28% of any refund due (or £60, whichever is the higher). I’d at least ask for a copy of the contract you agreed to and how/when you did so before deciding what to do next.

I would assume that any company getting between you and the Inland Revenue is looking to get a piece of you !

So turns out I had indeed ticked a box on the actual HMRC website that basically gave this company control over any rebates for income tax.

I had a look at the form and it is about the right to claim for uniform expenses, the crafty buggers worded it in such a way it looks like you benefit from it! If anyone on here has themselves used this company I urge you to try and cancel your agreement with them, you do have a 14 cool off period once signed but after that it becomes a bit tricky to get off their list, they will do it but you will lose out on any rebates due up to the time you close agreement with them, how HMRC allow this is beyond me but they're a bit busy to worry about money they owe you but always on hand to discuss money you owe.

I was thinking of setting up a company that collects people's taxes then deducts 38p in the pound when people owe tax but I'm not sure they'll be that keen on that.

For the vast majority of claims for those not filing tax returns there is absolutely no need at all to use these ********. All they do is grab your refund, deduct a fee, and forward on to you whatever is left. They don't actually do anything for their fee. It takes no technical skills or specialist knowledge to claim the repayments.

If it is claiming work related expenses, use the P87 available online here:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-income-tax-relief-for-your-employment-expenses-p87

Higher rate taxpayers claiming personal pension relief can follow the instructions here:

https://www.gov.uk/tax-on-your-private-pension/pension-tax-relief

If it's anything else, post it here and I'm sure somebody can help.

West is BEST
Reminds me of when I applied for provisional driving license and I filled out a form on (what I thought was) the gov.U.K. site.

It was made to look exactly like the legit site. Even the web address was designed to look like it.

Got to the end and just as I was about to press proceed with payment I noticed in tiny print, they were going to take a £120 fee. Noticed just in time. It was a legal but unethical site deigned to rip people off.

I reported them to the financial ombudsman, the DVLA and to Martin Lewis.

Do be sure to report this scam. Because that’s what it is.
