"Crystal Palace resemble a drowning man whose life depends on a limited number of lunges at a lifebelt. Adrift before autumn, and fighting energetically due to an initial adrenaline rush, they will quickly reach the stage where urgency gives way to listlessness, the cold takes hold, and they are consigned to the depths".

I just thought that was lovely, and felt compelled to share it with the class.

Reminds me of my fav scene

Much as we all hope and pray that he's right, and much as their start has been magnificently terrible, it is simply NOT the case that they are beyond recovery. Seriously, they are FIVE POINTS from 17th place. Just TWO wins could see them out of the bottom three

True. Although having lost at home to Swansea, Southampton and Huddersfield, drawn at home to West Ham and Everton, they really aren't helping themselves in games against teams around them

Linking a football team to death is just not funny. It's like he is watching someone drown and enjoys the pleasure of watching it happen.

I don't think he's trying to be funny (although their plight obviously is).

Personally I thought it was a tremendous analogy. Always worth buying a broadsheet on a Sunday for the sports pullout. You don't get football writing like that in the S*n.
