Always an absorbing read and this year more than most as I had hoped to flick through and find our Knight in Shining Armour Tony Bloom safely positioned with a comfortable wad to ensure our ongoing success once we take ownership of the good ship Falmer.

Despressingly though I couldn't find him but instead came across these two chumps:

523= Bill Archer £125m

574 = Greg Stanley £115m

I remain hopeful that Mr Bloom does have the bunce to bounce us back up to where we think we belong.

Lets just hope he is very secretive about his fortune!

If he can afford to pile £94 million into the Albion, I think you can sleep safely in your bed knowing that he is worth a touch more than Archer and Stanley.

He just doesn't like to shout about it. Or is on a massive tax fraud :jester:

Only kidding, boss :lolol:

It is good to see Archer there with £125m bearing in mind a few years ago he was a bit higher up with about £400m. Couple more years and who knows, he might be signing on!!!!

Blooms non appearance is a bit of a mystery though. He is relatively high profile now so its not as though the Sunday Times would have overlooked him. He also appears to have put close to £100 million into the Albion which would suggest he is worth considerably more than this. Has anyone any idea as to why he does not appear? I have never seen any explanation as to where the money for the stadium has come from or any evidence to suggest Tony Bloom does has a fortune in the hundreds of millions. Obviously there is money coming from somewhere its just that it seems a bit odd that source is not clear. Usually if you make that sort of money there is some evidence on the www how you did it.

It is possible to 'opt out' of being in the rich list if you dont want to appear.

What do they base these lists on? Is it annual returns to HMRC?

I do admit I feel slightly uncomfortable considering the amounts of cash that have gone into the Albion project that there is no visibilty of where the moolah has come from.

Maybe he's got a lot of money but hasn't got it all in the form calculated by the rich list?

What exactly is the SOURCE of this "rich list" anyway ? Unless the featured millionaires have actually publicised what it is they are worth, how does anyone know ?

annual returns to Companies House (or oversees equivilents), educated guesses on known assests and their values. alot of those in the top end is paper wealth based on the current share price of companies owned or involved in. Its quite possible that apart from Albion chairmanship, Blooms wealth is off the radar, for example if he doesnt show up as a director of any UK company and his wealth is all personal.

I've always assumed the Sunday Times just has a load of researchers do a spot of digging.

It's fairly easy to work out the sort of money that has been made from companies that are listed with Companies House and land registry's can help you work out the approximate values of properties in the country.

Beyond that it's pretty much guesswork I should imagine HOWEVER if your business interests aren't all in the UK with accounts of public record then perhaps you can keep things quiet.

Bloom is a poker player so he's used to keeping his cards close to his chest and I admire the way he has so far managed to keep everyone guessing as to his worth

It's a very rough list anyway. Most of it is estimated worth based on known ownership stakes in various companies, along with known earnings, and known properties.

It does not go into an individuals bank balance, or private investment funds. After all this is personnal and confidential information which the people composing the list do not have access to.

It is just a guide, which sells a few more papers - it can be in no way seen as a definative study of every individuals wealth.

still very strange though because Bloom had a lot of publicity by putting the £90 mill interest free up for the stadium and on that basis he would be in that list.
