He thought Strauss was time-wasting so they didnt have to face an extra over.

As previously mentioned, England were supposed to face two overs... Ponting is just a whiney little bitch.

Under pressure because he's going to be a 3 time ashes losing captain.

Like his innings today? :lolol:

I don't think that was a typo. Ricky is a very good Batman

If Australia lose the series, he will fall on his sword (or be pushed). If they win it, I think he'll have one more stab at the Ashes in England, but retire from ODIs after the World Cup. He does seem to be on the way down now. I think part of the problem is a lack of a natural successor. Clarke has been groomed for it, but his place in the side isn't assured at the moment and he has this chronic back problem which may limit his shelf life. Before the first Test North was being mentioned as a potential successor, but he's nowhere near established enough. This is a far cry from times past when there's been at least one outstanding candidate who is nailed on to play in all forms of the game to take the captaincy on, such as when Ponting took over from Steve Waugh.

I understand that Harris is carrying some kind of long term injury too. This is a team teetering on the edge which is being forced to play players who are not fit because there is nothing (experienced or consistent enough) coming along behind.

We have to bat now for two days and put this lot under some real pressure. Could lead to a very tasty test win.

England wouldn't have been batting at all if Ponting had scored a run. Must really wrankle with the poisonous little weazel-faced crim.

I don't get this hostility to Ponting, which seems (as above) to go well beyond banter.

With the exception of the Gary Pratt incident, he's always struck me as a fair-minded and decent bloke, as well as being a brilliant batsman. There have been plenty of Aussie captains who have been bloody-minded sods (two Chappells, latter-day Border spring immediately to mind) but Ponting doesn't strike me as one of them. There was a good piece in the Guardian yesterday saying that Ponting was one of cricket's good guys which is line with what I've always thought.

In fact, I'd say that this Australian team could do some with the nastiness and aggression of some of the older players, perhaps they're too nice.

Does it? In my experience most of the stuff that happens during a match is banter; he's a bit of a pantomime villian because he wears his heart on his sleeve. I'd agree that he seems like a good guy; the kind of person that you'd play a hard game against and then share a beer or two with afterwards.

I'd agree with your general tone regarding Ponting, but with regards to this specific incident, what the f*** does he think he's doing? As Michael Vaughan said on TMS, don't try acting the leader now, Ponting. You should have been doing that hours ago. Walk away.

Vaughan was right. Of course the batsmen were going to run down the clock, the damage was done with some shit Aussie batting, not by missing out on one over which was debateable anyhow.

i agree pretty much with this view to be honest, and a few england players over recent years have echoed this. I do think clearly that he is under a heck of a lot of pressure though. As for future skippers well interim choice for me, if needed would be Hussey. Have huge respect for him as a player and as a person
