above the west cornish pasty shop on the piazza at covent garden, there is a pub with a great balcony that sells really good beer...you can watch everybody messing around in covent garden... and if anyboy says it's touristy 'you're wrong', i work in a bar very close to the strand and covent garden and most of them are shepheard & neame shitpits.

also, there's a bonkers underground wine bar at the bottom of villiars street, i think called henry's (?)...they only sell wine and port and it's the quirkiest drink den i've ever seen in london.

for cocktails, be@1, on aldwych circus i think, is alright but get's very busy, but for quality cocktails at normal prices with friendly staff it's the best in the area.

there's also a funny little thesp pub called the dolphin and something near william the 4th street opposite charing x. it's on 2 levels and is quite nice.

think that's it!

So fond of the place you don't know what it's called!! The Cove and it's very risty!! All the pubs by the market are.

Agree about allot of the pubs round there being shit and scream type fare.

The Lowlander is a pretty decent place, if you like your Belgian beers but it's not cheap!!

If you want cheap there are a couple of Sam Smiths pubs about. The Princess Lousie is back up toward Holborn (so 10 min walk or so) or the Chandos just up from Trafalger Square.

Or there is a Treverspoons on Kingsway and in Leicester Square if you like that sort of thing.

Some good pubs in Seaford. And they're cheaper than The Strand, as well as a much nice area. ;)

Seaford ? Nice ? Well yes if you get a free bus pass but not if you have a job.

The Lyceum is cheap as it is a Samuel Smith's pub. As mentioned above the Cole Hole is a good pub and there are loads around the Covent Garden area which is great in the summer.

Also the Freemasons Arms is nearby which is the pub where The FA was formed, although it is very pricey.

Albion & England forever.

That be the Punch and Judy. Coal Hole is good.

I know a lot around there, most pubs are fine, slightly expensive and will be packed b4 Threatre and at weekends.

If you can make it to China Town go to Macclesfield Road and DE HEms.

Orangeboom on pump. Its is gorgeaus. TA great beer. Nothing like the tins. The pub is a classic as well.

Very good pubs if you venture towards Westminster after work. Neglected by people at weekends as well, so not too busy.

There's also a few good pubs on and around St Martins Lane.

Just off St Martins lane there's a pub called the Round Table? Behind Leceister Square tube station.

Loads of pubs actually, and a few historic pubs if you walk on towards Fleet Street.

There's a very, very old inn called the Ye Old Cheshire Cheese which has to be seen to be believed.

As for food, sorry but Benjys is just rubbish shit rubbish. So many little usually Italian cafe bars around, you can avoid the chains quite easily and get some real food.

Can't beat the South Bank, Bankside and the area generally around London Bridge where I spent the most of the day today.

It used to be called Gordons a few years back. Real good place, get there early for a seat though as it fills up quickly

Is that a joke? I work in Leicester Square and Id call every pub in the vicinity pretty horrific.

Best pubs for the Strand:

for Cheap try Chandos which is just off Trafalgar Square.

La Perla for quality Margheritas, coronas, and tequila. Think the street is called Maiden Lane and runs off of Southampton street. Trendy in a touristy way try Jewell, next to La Perla. You also have The Porterhouse which is a beast of a pub.

You know about all these pubs and for years youve told me that the only pub in London is The Market Porter! I feel betrayed!

The Porterhouse 21-22 Maiden Lane

The Porterhouse is renowned for the wide selection of porters, stouts, and ales on offer, brewed at their own Dublin brewery. Spread over three floors, The Porterhouse serves nine of their own draught beers and ninety plus bottled beers from around the world

A great place!

No it's not the Punch & Judy that's the one actually in the market and it's f***ing awful!!

The Cove is the one he's talking about and it's not much better to be truthful.

Good shout on De Hems! Quality boozer, like the Lowlander though it certainly isn't cheap!! Does have Fruli Strawberry on tap though!! And sells DT's in bottles, a few of them and it's game over!!

It is!

Well it sells Harveys and Dark Star beer so therefore can be the only pub worthy of any true Albion/Sussexite.
