You're right, KNC, I did forget the Evening Standard - understandably. And if the Brighton Tavern is to be thrown in, then so must the Nelson, which is, of course, 20 time better.

I was in the Star between 5-6.30 on Friday.
It's the best bar for drinking fine ale has a friendly staff. If you want a poncy bar that's 'nice' and sells fizzy drinks then this is not the place for you.

Having worked in pubs/clubs both sides of the ban here, I found the smells that were most masked and suddenly came most to the front were urine and stale alcohol actually. You can still smell sweat over smoke in a nightclub...
Been a major business in refitting grot-pit nightclubs in rural areas here since the ban came in - some of them hadn't seen much in the way of a proper clean let alone new gear since the 1970s - usually when they turned from dance halls to nightclubs - and no smoking meant the filth/other smells came noticeable. I remember walking in to somewhere I'd last played pre-ban and thinking I'd gone in the wrong venue though - theres been a lot of "appropriated" layouts/designs
