Looking at their FB page, they are looking at a London location too, to offer the same sort of thing to members when up that way.

Given the grand vision, I'm just amazed that they can convert a dilapidated old department store into what they want in 4-5 months. Doesn't seem quite possible.

The people presumably have the whole building, as they are also behind the Forest Row food hall thing opening up on the other side round by McDonalds/Nandos. They've got places like Block, Rincon de Pepe and The Beef Guy there.

I rather like Worthing these days. I find it easier to shop in than Brighton. Reasonable parking and some great food places/bars.

And yes, I think it’s becoming gentrified. However, I think it’s being done rather well, all jokes aside.

More and more people I know are moving along the coast to buy property because in Hove it’s completely unaffordable. Think everyone is getting pushed out of Brighton by DFLs so moving along. I don’t mind Worthing but it’s too far out for me personally.

People spilled out of London to Brighton, and that caused a ripple west that ultimately reached Worthing, and maybe it's happened along the coast the other way too.

Worthing is never going to be Brighton, in the same way as Brighton is never going to be London. The Worthing haters will be along soon, I'm sure, but it has improved markedly over the last 5-6 years, at least in terms of pubs and dining-out locations, and a few Brighton independent cafes and the like have opened in Worthing too.

I’m Lancing based so Worthing is very convenient. I rarely go into a Brighton outside of work now.
And I have never bothered with any of the paces in Lancing. Anyone who knows the place will understand why!
Shoreham is my main place for socialising and meeting friends but Worthing is featuring more on my places to go these days.

We moved back to Worthing from Brighton after the pandemic and it's great for us.

I imagine this will be going for two types of people;

The “grown up lad” in his late 30’s / 40’s who thinks playing golf and drinking Courvoisier makes them the height of sophistication. They’ll be in membership arrears within 4 months of joining.

The small business owner who probably owns a couple of greasy spoon cafes and a second hand car dealership. Annoying tits with spare money and zero taste.


There is no shortage of either of these in the Worthing area.

I can only assume they will be trying to attract the older version of Soho House or Rockwater wankers. Really, who thinks it's a good idea to pay pots of money just to be a member of a pub with a restaurant attached ?

We moved as a family when I was younger to Lancing 20 years ago and I’d still go back to Brighton for everything, even though Worthing was just up the road. I had absolutely no interest in going to Worthing. Now with my own Family, I live in Worthing and only go back to Brighton for the football

Worthing drinking scene has improved significantly recently.

The rest of the town centre (outside of Warwick street) is an absolute dive. Charity shops and pound shops. Putting the job centre on the high street was suicidal for that part of town

I don’t like Worthing anymore, and certainly don’t agree that it’s dining out locations are notable. Went out on Friday evening with a pal, and it’s just not a very nice place.

The best restaurant by an absolute mile is Ami Bistro.
Perch wasn’t too bad either to be fair….

How are those two places getting on? I remember about 15 years ago Brighton had a couple of higher end members clubs but neither seemed to do well and eventually closed. Think one was run by Blanch House, another was at The Hanbury Ballroom.
