Caicdeo (Britain's most expensive player) and Ali Mac (world cup winner) must be close? Just not such flashy positions/players.
Let's not forget that Southampton missed the talent of Ben White and released him from their academy at age 16, after which he spent 5 seasons kicking around the lower leagues before Leeds Utd discovered him in 2019.

Preston Park
LAZY trope. Brighton operate in a PL with FFP/PSR and total market revenues of £10billion+. It was about £3b at the height of the Southampton model. We’re relentlessly data-driven by one of the world’s most prolific sports information gathering and forensic analysing football operations. We’ll get stuff wrong. We’ll get stuff right more.

The dull part of the south coast
I’ve never really got the comparison. It’s lazy and catastrophising.
You’re right. Aside from us both being south coast clubs the comparison ends there apart from Southampton selling their best players in the 2010s and replacing them with inferior models - which we definitely have not. Our recruitment is also of a much higher standard.

It’s true we’re in danger of relegation at some future date if we sell our best players and fail to find adequate replacements, as happened with Southampton, but then the same is true for almost every club. We put more attention on our pipeline of talent than the great majority of clubs making us less vulnerable than most. When Tony Bloom stands down (way into the future I hope) this might change, who knows?

Southampton’s model was British yoof coming through its academy and being given a chance in the first team - Luke Shaw, Walcott, Bale, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana etc.

Articles from the time point out that minutes for young players was at something of a low point - definitely not the case now.

The similarity is the low average age but I think the comparison mostly stops there.
They also used a ZX81 to process their data.

It was obviously going to fail.
