You're prepared to believe some bullshit drivel that the Daily Mail produces...

Couldn't have put it better myself.

It's down to premises managers and local authorities to enforce. The only police involvement would be if you had someone who refused to put their fag out and then kicked off when asked to leave, in which case they might call police for assistance in ejecting the individual.

Very sorry to disappoint you.

Looking at the weather, I doubt any buckets of water will be needed tonight...

I think the ban is stupid...Just going to make the price of alcohol go up...

It didn't seem to adversely affect the pubs in LA, when it was implemented there.
People still came in, and probably attracted more people to pubs by the fact that people often spilled out of the front doors just to light up.
The only thing I hated, was playing a smoker at pool, and having to keep waiting while they bogged off for a fag every 20 minutes.

But i am on about tax and that! The government will lose so much money from the lack tobacco taxes!

bullshit, bullshit, bullshit as that goes. The publicans stopped squeaking about it when tax returns, etc proved them to be DOWNRIGHT LIARS here.

Employment in hospitality sector up 8% in the year after the smoking ban

Revenues up, can't find the exact percentage right now but it was high single or double figures. Restuarant sales went up most, pubs increased too. Off licence sales went up too.

Effectively, people who insist on smoking while drinking will buy booze and go home and smoke there with it. Most people will just use the smoking areas. And people who wouldn't go out drinking due to the smoke - asmathics, people who just don't like it - will start going out. It had NO adverse effect. Theres also the cost benefit of far reduced cleaning/repainting of premises, repair/replacemet of furniture, etc.

And in English? That sentence made no sense, whatsoever.

It will have f*** all impact on cigarette sales. Any tax clawback that happens isn't going to be specifically targeted at alcohol, indeed it'll probably be targeted at... cigarettes.

My last post I was on the phone, as I was trying to say, the smoking ban will reduce the amount of people that smoke in my opinion, losing the tax man money on the amount of money he gets from ciggarettes and tobacco, therefor putting up the price of the tax percentage on alcohol.

In my opinion

1. any Tax revenue lost by a reduction in smoking would be offset by either cost savings in the NHS from treating less people with smoking related diseases or by increasing tax on ...... cigarettes
2. Cigarette sales increased in the ROI when smoking was banned there

Why the f*** would they pick alcohol?

The response, here and the UK, to falling tax revenues on cigarettes has ALWAYS been to increase the tax on, wait for it

CIGARETTES

Not alcohol, not petrol, etc, etc. Also, theres nothing to even suggest it'll have a noticable impact on cigarette sales. As Frank Inkerman says, sales increased here, although that has been assisted by a 5-10% population boost in the interim.

Ok so why have the government banned it from all enclosed places. I appreciate the fact about non smokers, but what is wrong with seperated smoking areas?

The govenerment say it is to get people to stop, but if the sales will increase then...

Meh!

Because there is no such thing as a fully seperated indoor smoking area, without using an airlock on the door.

You're not going to be able to prove its going to affect anyone other than smokers.

A local suggested that if 20 people in each of the pubs in Worthing started smoking tomorrow night and refused to either put it out or leave the premises where would Sussex Police find sufficient people to enforce this law in 30 different pubs.

His other view was to take the French view - You make the laws but bollocks we do not agree with it so we shall not abide by it.

Incidentally I agree with it and belive that it will be the making of the rebirth of pubs eventually.

The law does not go far enough Smoking should be banned ANYWHERE other than in your own home. But that would mean the tax received would drop greatly.

Do one per night, get the lot of them convicted, problem sorted within a month.

Believe me, there is no practical way that any pub is going to "get away" with allowing smoking. They don't here, they don't in Scotland, and they don't in Northern Ireland. Just accept it (not you BG, as you seem to have accepted it...)

.

If as I suggested in my previous post everybody ignored it the police would be ubable to control the situation.

If somebody refuses to either put it out or go outside I shall pick up the phone to Sussex Police for them to sort it out.
