I popped up to Withdean today between showers to see the state of our old home.

The dug outs and a few turnstiles are there in case Falmer isn't ready and we need to play any more games although the capacity has dropped a little.....

and before you ask I cant possibly make them any bigger.

I can't be the only one who doesn't find anything remotely sad about this.

No your not mate, I couldn't give flying sh*t about the place. Served a purpose but for way too long while we were messed around by every Tom Dick and Harry. Good riddance to the dump, bring on Falmer.

Like it or not Withdean played a big part in the history of our club, maybe even saved it.

I ran round the track (cinder then not rubber crumb) during school sports days. So for me it holds good memories and I wish it well for the future.

I thought that the improvements we had made to the stadium were going to be left so that Withdean could be used by the local community,it seems rather petty to rip out the seating etc.

Did not realise that there was such a huge mound of earth underneath the South Stand. For ten years I needlessly worried- should the stand collapse we would fall 6000 ft to instant death.

And if it were not for Withdean I would not have made so many new friends many of which I am sitting with at Falmer.

Originally it was a grassy bank , they just stuck up the scaffolding into concrete and built a stand. It sometimes felt like it would collapse with all those fans stomping their feet at the same time.

That first picture shows some progress towards re-establishing the car park that I was responsible for getting built there when I managed the shoppers' park & ride service that was set up at Withdean in the 1990s.

It was one of the GREAT CAR PARKS OF THE WORLD - wrecked by a bloody football club moving in.
