It’s a shame he does no furniture restoring in the programme. He just goes around dressed for it, offering to acquire items for specialists in their craft who obviously know where to source their materials.
I have seen Money for Nothing. Now that programme IS a load of shite.

I suppose someone has to be the presenter on the show, probably helps to have someone that also has an interest and is skilled in restoration.

I really don't get all " Escape to the Chateau" at all, how Strawbridge has managed to get TV to effectively fund his new life post- divorce is an astounding bit of business. No mention of his previous family, especially the TV series with the son with which he sailed around the UK with and made stopovers in little ports to complete nearby meaningless " Challenges"?

Now he's in France now having fled the divorce lawyers and Family #1 have been conveniently forgotten as he ploughs on with the restoration of his house and his reputation. Sadly, the " Challenges" still exist as Dick races against the clock and the triffid like growth of the thicket on his top lip to repair broken cupboards, water wheels, looms and antique tractors..

Inevitably Dick will invite the local Farmers/ex Pats or the D'oyly Carte Opera Company for the grand re launch of something he hasn't fixed yet, in order to ramp up nonexistent tension and try to keep viewers awake. Everything usually slots in to place and disaster is avoided until the next upcoming challenge / disaster.

Years back my house backed on to a house that hosted the Changing Rooms team or similar. Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen got to do the inside and some Oirish bloke called Dermot got the back garden... It was billed as a surprise makeover for the owners wife's 60 th birthday or something.... On TV it appeared to be done in a long weekend, in practice, they were filming on and off for close to 10 days. The Gardening " Team" were incredibly lethargic and seem to have spent hours without making any discernable change, the two "Stars" would be parachuted in to film for an hour or two every 2-3 days then would sweep out again leaving a team of 15 odd with clipboards clustering together trying to figure out how interpret in reality the new directives issued by the designers.

I can fully imagine a cluster of actual expert Doozers off camera doing face palms as Dick says " Why don't we rebuild this 18th century steam traction engine and enter the local Ploughing Tournament in three weeks time?"

Dick Strawbridge does present the programme, but there are many others who are featured in the series. I like the up cycling and renovation work done by the chateau owners.
There's one single Mum who is doing her renovation work completely on her own, making a fantastic job of it. I belong to the ETTCDIY group on Facebook, where many of the chateau owners post as well. Obviously they want to advertise their properties for B&B and events, but they also share tips and some have their own YouTube posts.
There is more to the programme than him, although he does the narration.

I like France, holiday there every year, and as [MENTION=259]Jack Straw[/MENTION] has said, in another life, I would have moved there myself.

Like his "House of Games Show" with the very impressive prizes and the huge (plastic) silver trophy for weekly champion. A good fun quiz.

We love this and compete against each other. My husband is great at anagrams and answersmash, whereas I can do the spoonerisms, number code and where is Kazakhstan with ease.

He is very good at talking, there are many shows where a skilled tradesperson becomes a presenter because they have the personality to do it. Better than getting their hands dirty grafting I suppose.

Yes, I'm highly skilled, hugely experienced, and extremely knowledgeable about whatever I happen to be working on at the time.
Those on the Repair Shop also seem to be highly skilled, except Jay, who is only good at painting chair legs. And talking.
Most of those on Money for Nothing seem to be inexperienced wannabees, playing around with things they know nothing about, and charging an arm to do it...… Having said that, I will admit that one or two of them are brilliant.
