I have just read through the thread.......

I really don't believe this dirty laundry should be washed publicly, it just doesn't seem becoming of such a worthy and well thought of cause.

Only my opinion, and maybe as an 'outsider' I should mind my own. But I just don't see how these public discussions can in anyway benifit REMF

1 Griffin - Pete has been our keeper since REMF2.

2 Walmsley - Tom has played at right back for the last four years.

3 Healey - Max plays left back and has improved with age.

4 Edmonds - Sheebo is a REMF veteran who is a great centre half.

6 Phillips - Toby is a class act who can play in midfield or defence.

7 Buss - Beefy was injured in the warm up game last year, but has recovered well to regain his place.

8 Ward - The legend joins us for his second REMF match.

9 Marlowe - The only survivor from REMF1.

10 Mendoza - Brett is also a REMF veteran.

11 Mellor - Probably our second best midfielder, Sam played in REMF when I still had hair.

12 Barrett - Simon was MOTM in the year before last, and was injured last year.

13 Evans - Has been a valuable squad member for the last three REMF games. Jaz provides much needed height and versatility. He can play left back, right back, centre half and up front.

14 Martindale - Looks like he will be a real asset on the right of midfield.

15 Jenkins - Ali has played in a number of REMF games now - and has scored a few goals.

16 Coleman - Another versatile member of the squad who has figured in many previous games.

17 Kane - Another one of our class strikers who was on holiday for the last game. Will give much needed pace up front alongside Ricky and Peter. Has scored a few goals in the shoot outs too.

18 Morris - Richie is a great player to have around the dressing room, and pops up with a few goals sometimes too.

19 McCarthy - Our sub keeper missed last year's game due to holiday.


I'd love to be able to include more players but it does become a bit of a farce with too many in the squad - and we do want to win the game.

Some players were drafted in last year to cover for people who were injured/on holiday, and these people who have played many times before deserve to regain their places.

I didn't pick Snoobs, partly because I've only seen him once - on Saturday - and in my opinion he isn't better than George Martindale or Neil Kane. I have told him I will keep him in reserve when people inevitably drop out and he is fine with it.

I also left out some others, one of which was Simon. I appreciate he raised a lot of money last year, but we will raise a lot of money this year too. We have two left backs in the squad, and four centre backs, and I could not see him getting a game.

I hope this is ok, I am trying to the best I can here as we all are, and we can't please everybody all of the time.

Indeed. Just self-interest, as suspected.

Good to see "REMF veterans" are allowed to play just because they've played before. No mention of sponsorship donated or time given up, no mention of the £100 match fee as was the case in REMF1. An embarrassment and utterly shameful.

Sorry being away. I think this could have been avoided by announcing a squad and then having individual pages of each squad member. That would have solved it and I suggest that is the way forward now. Simster, Lokki and anyone else who has felt they have donated falsely can of course have their money back I will arrange that. I will say howver regardless of whoever you sponsored surely the whole point is it goes to the REMF to continue the good causes. If people feel they have been misled I will get your money refunded.

As I have said numerous time there does seem to be some real grievances about team selection and I think it is now imprtant to arrange a local meeting to discuss this, clear the air and agree criteria especially with REMF 10 next year which will be HUGE. I can see the rationale of people who have played before continuing to do so. I can see the rationale of people who raised a lot of money being allowed to play again but as this is the flagship event we need to make sure people who have donated and wish to donate are happy.

All too late for this year but I agree.

I played in the first year and I think we all agreed to pay £100 for the privilige - plus sponsorship. If you were an impoverished student and couldn't afford the £100 match fee - well, tough your place went to someone with a bit more financial clout. Surely no one is saying the squad should be picked soley on ability? That first year we had some SHOCKING players, and yeah, I was probably one of them. But here's the thing: the result was/is irrelevant! It's about RASING MONEY. No one has really come to see a load of not-very-good footballers playing a sub-standard game, they've come because they want to support the charity. I'm not saying it's the be-all and end-all (otherwise I might make a come-back next year!) but the ability of the players to make a SUBSTANTIAL contribution to REMF has to be a criteria otherwise what's the point?

I must agree. I am quite surprised by these revelations. It leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. And given the circumstances with which this charity was created I would expect dignity as well as fund raising to be paramount. Both of these commodities seem well down the list of priorities.

To put some history into this players sponsorships were NOT a major part of the fund raising in the past, certainly REMF 1-7. Most years the squad raised a few hundred. We raised about £ 500 and REMF 7 and when ballistic raising £ 4000 in REMF 8 down to Brett's organisation and a fabulous facebook campaign. If there has been an error I belive it should have been left as last year, the squad announced and then individual pages set up. I was suprised 4 weeks ago and said so, to be fair.

However to confirm REMF 1-7, the vast majority of the money raised was from gate money, raffle, auctions and donations.

The REMF game is about raising money. But it is also about winning. No-one wants to turn up and watch someone with a bit of cash who fancies a run out alongside Peter Ward. Andy has picked the best team, from what he knows of the players who have put themselves forward.

However I think we could have been a bit more professional about this. We should have chosen the squad before setting up the Fundraising page (and there's not a lot wrong with a joint page IMHO, although it does allow people to disappear from the effort of fundraising). Then people who are only going to donate if their mate is in the squad (and there's nothing wrong in that) could have made the decision that was right for them.

Lee, as editor of the just giving page, I cannot edit the donations section or what was written in their. If you wish to have the money refunded, we can come to an arrangement when we meet in the pub. As the donations go straight into the remf account I cannot take money out and physically transfer it.

A solution maybe for you to donate the same amount on Max's page and then I refund you that amount when I meet you and your lovely (Chinese flag) red trainers and new t-shirt

Like Kay says that has to be some balance. We need players who can play and have a chance of winning. We don't want a bunch of Tory toffs playing because they are rich but can't play better than Boris Johnson. For REMF 1-7 the selection was not based and who got the most sponsorship as we made the money from other things as stated.

A fail to see what's wrong with playing the players that have played in many of the previous games and why people are getting so worked up about it?...

or he's picked his mates who have been involved before and ignored those that put a lot into last year, and not just the REMF game. Does this veteran bullshit mean that Stumpy Tim and Brovian could be automatic picks for next year if available? After all they played in the first one.

Of course everyone wants us to win, and it shouldn't be about buying your way into the team but the way this has been handled is a shambles. It seems wrong that people who were away last year can just walk back into a winning squad, or that selection is based on one warm up game.

Sorry, not picking on Lush but just annoyed that this whole thing smacks of a closed shop.
