Unbelievable really.

'watched the entire game live (well I would, having been a Seagull since 1970, wouldn't I ) and I thought Mr. Barrott had a very good game. No errors on any KMIs, good positioning and fitness, good foul detection, clear signals, good advantages played, etc. If I wanted to be very picky (which I don't), I could cite two very similar holding offences by opposing players within a few minutes of each other. The Brighton player was cautioned (quite rightly) but the City player wasn't, so maybe a very temporary' lapse of consistency but a subjective situation. I think he can be satisfied with his performance (as I was with my Seagulls).'

The East lino was the worst I can remember, utterly incompetent.

Igor booked for dissent for waving his hand around and shouting. Their players do the same constantly and nothing given.

Igor was hardly dissent either - it was more a show of frustration. I was surprised he was booked for it.

The ref just point blank refused to apply any consistency in his decisions.

I thought he was actually pretty consistent. Give City fouls, but not Brighton sort of consistency!

The inconsistency was alarming, our player pulls back a City player and rightly booked, City player does the same to ours and nothing happens.

I mean, I always think the refs are against us, so hard for me to say.
Sounds like it wasn't just my blue and white specs this time.

IMO it was a similar story at Anfield, except.....
Liverpool were attacking constantly and we were forced to make challenges, where a ref has to make a judgement.
The Liverpool crowd, made it an intimidating atmosphere.
Theses factors are going to affect the ref and he's likely to start favouring the attacking, home team.

That wasn't the case yesterday.
The ref just point blank refused to apply any consistency in his decisions.
Sure none of them were game definining, but these are the small margins that the top teams shouldn't need, but still get.

Didn't one of their players escape a booking and then got booked a bit later which would have lead to a red card?

He was awful, which definitely helped us in getting the crowd riled up. The one where Adingra (I think?) got wiped out on the edge of the box was confirmation the ref was -consciously or subconsciously- helping them out. Guarantee if we were chasing a goal there would have been 4 mins added, then of course, nobody can question it afterwards so they get away scot-free.

Anyone see the decision Saints got against them again for the disallowed goal? I think that's the third time this season they've been screwed by outrageous decisions. They have every right to be absolutely seething.

I remember a young black East lino 2 or 3 seasons ago who looked completely out of place. Didn't make one single decision, waiting for the ref to point before he would lift his flag.
Haven't seen him since then.

It's more visible and gets far more exposure if it's a big decision. But, like last night, it's the constant niggly 50/50s etc. fouls that the super league six get given and others don't. That's what, at least partly, subtley keeps the momentum on their side. It must get to a point for our players when both teams go up for the ball, hear the whistle, and automatically think about getting back into a defensive position, because they expect a foul to be given against them. It's that momentum and it's affect on mentality that sways games with such small margins.

Yes but it was Wolves who benefitted and they really have had it tough in terms of controversial decisions.

I wonder if our club (and others outside the big lot) try and do anything about it? It's mad how consistent the favouritism is. It allows the big teams to either keep up the pressure, or get away from it when they're under the kosh.

They do. That's why VAR has to stay.

Even though VAR cost us at least five points the season we qualified for Europe, (Howard Webb had to come and give us a grovelling apology, twice), I have to agree with you. Most refs just can't be trusted to get all their decisions right.

Aye, and I had to shout at him, "do you think that makes up for how shyte you've been the whole f'n game ref"? But I'm up the back of N1B and I don't think he heard me.

I will say one thing in defence of referees and clubs playing the title contenders. It can be the case that the less-heralded team gives away a succession of niggly fouls because they're absolutely at full stretch trying to match their opponents' level. So not big clattering challenges, just arriving a fraction late time and again.

That said, the body check on Adingra looked a joke. And situations like the one in the second half where someone (Silva maybe?) was surrounded by 5 players with no chance of keeping the ball before he went to ground do feel like free-kicks we would rarely be given. Haven't had a chance to watch the second half back yet but will be interested to see if my perception was backed by the reality.

It's also sadly too easy to anticipate which refs will be desperately poor, which is unlikely to be a coincidence. Yesterday's would be high on that list with - off the top of my head - Attwell, Coote and Bankes. Some of them improve with experience. Others, like Attwell, somehow get away with it for years.
