The REBEL England v Sweden Thread

Owen Hargreaves was quality tonight, we MUST improve on defending set-pieces, I hope Owen is ok but to me that looks really bad. Sweden are very very poor, and I don't think they had any shots at Paul Robinson.

I'm happy with the performance and the result, even through it was nerve racking stuff.

I'm bloody pissed off with how terrible our defending at set plays was. But it's a thing that can be worked and improved upon, so not all bad. Hargreaves and Joe Cole were my highlights of tonight. Awesome.

Just hope Rio's ok.

Hargreaves excellent, much better as a unit with a holding midfielder - there's a shocker ... yet of course Sven will drop him and we'll be shite again.

Predictably enough, our injury-prone forward goes and gets injured, and Sven's joke squad selection is shown up in style. Enormous cock-up not taking Defoe, and one we'll probably pay for. Joy.

If Owen is f***ed we aint going much further Crouch showed his lack of skill in the past 3 games and his headed "effort" in the first half was almost as bad as that shot against T&T

[Defoe's] too selfish and not of the required standard...probably

Even if that's anywhere near true, he's also the most natural goalscorer we've got in the absence of Owen - who we have no genuine replacement for in the squad.

Nope but he's a team player

How much of Spurs did you see last year?

Crouch maybe a team player but he cant shoot for shit - id rather have a striker that at least works the keeper

Not in the team is he? Good enough for England but not for Spurs, yeah right. Evertime I have seen Defoe play I have been amazed by his selfishness. I just don't see he'd bring anything to England, we'll be better off with 5 in midfiled and Rooney on his own up front. I thought of Crouch as a late in the game impact player. Circumstances dictate that he has played but i'd still prefer him to Defoe,

Still brings more to the squad than Crouch.

I dont even want Defoe in the squad, but to claim Crouch is much better is a joke.

And we all saw how well a bunch of tewam players did for Brighton last year.

England's best game just about - but worrying again how the fluency disappeared in the second half.

Pleased for Hargreaves given that England fans have previously given him a hard time, but doubt if he is a world-beater. Rooney showed flashes but needs to hit his best now if England are to progress.

So many questions still remain and a very hard game in prospect against Ecuador. They will probably view England as another version of toothless Poland and will not be overawed like Paraguay were.
