The thing that amuses me is that she is in her eighties and there is always the possibility that she may not live to see her Jubilee as many of her age wouldn't. As it happens I like her and think that she will live to an old age, like her mother , but it is always a possibility.

I really don't mind her, just go and have a look at Buckingham Palace and see the hoardes of tourists outside to see what it brings to the country.

At a quid each per year, she's pretty good value.

I can remember the silver jubilee celebrations as a kid. We had a street party on our council estate. Bunting was everywhere and loads of people had flags and pictures of the queen up in their windows. I seem to remember how everywhere you went you saw shop windows decorated and the majority of houses had something or another up.

Now it seems that comparatively few houses and businesses have anything up. I'm reassured by this. Makes me feel we've grown up as a nation and left all that bowing and scraping nonsense behind us. I hope by the time my kids are my age our Monarchy will be consigned to the pages of history :)

This lady and her family need to do one and piss off again this time forever, the job was done a few hundred years ago. And then our society went backwards, when they wormed their way back.

Don't think so pal , Steyning has a street party and sold out 600 seats as soon as they went on sale . For me the Queen is number one , f*** having a president as our leader . and i will be going to the Euro's where every English fan will be singing 'God Save Our Gracious Queen' . Get realistic 80% of this country support the monarchy , you will never see any different in your life time.

If you are referring to the Guardian article, it also continues to state that most of the support is from the elderly and Conservatives, where did they do this poll, outside the Carlton club?

No from the general public as a whole not , not any specific article . I am not elderly or conservative so that fucks that up !

"General public as a whole" No such thing in regards to a poll, especially since the 80% number you quoted is connected i think to a poll where only 1000 people were asked. Anymore specific as to the demographics ie area/s asked, age bracket, format of question?

Anyway its a bloody stupid figure for a bloody stupid person not you but the queen, old money bags lizzy.

Time to dust off the old slogan from 1977 again: "Stuff the Jubilee! Fight the cuts!" Ah! That takes me back! Doesn't it Johnny Rotten? Oh no, you're on the other side now aren't you?

Actually, to be honest, even though I'm a staunch Republican I will admit that Elizabeth Windsor has been an EXCELLENT Head of State. I may profoundly disagree with the method whereby she got the job in the first place but if she were to abolish the monarchy and put herself up for election as President I'd vote for her. Whatever your views the Jubilee is an historical event.
