32 mile round trip for me everyday 5/6 times a week and we have cut back, down from two 1.6 cars, now we run two Clio's (1.2) models 'Herself' works in Manchester. Morrison's here £1.31.9 plus the voucher, lowest seen in Stoke at Esso £1.29.9. Public transport, like many rural area's is 'well forget it' sure Leek to Stoke return is available as a route (3 an hour between 7am and 6pm)at £4-90 and if you wish to travel just ONE stop it will cost you £1-90. Travel and fuel cost have become a serious issue ?

No. Binned the car unless dearly need to use it. Reverted to foot/bike and I have just bagged myself a free bus pass due to my hearing disability.

Other than price increase of goods and services, of course.

You choose to have a round trip of 32 miles to work, your missus has a 60 mile roundtrip and you complain about fuel costs? Weird. I'd say fuel isnt expensive enough. The number of miles travelled is double what it was 20 years ago and congestion chokes much of the country. UK should go the road use pricing route imo.

I get through about £30-35 of fuel a day.

Is it hitting me? Yup.

I use my bus pass more often now and only use the car when needs must or taking grandchildren home. It is cheaper to drive to Guildford with 2 grandchildren than use trains and buses on a Sunday are a no go.

Scrapped my old 2.5 v6 petrol omega in feb when we got a diesel zafira on motability, so have gone from around 17 mpg to just over 42 mpg - meaning that in real terms I'm better off by miles than I was before.

6.61 miles from the Amex
Here in Hove, my local Texaco is charging £1.36.8 / litre.
I drive a 1.6 Grand CMax and even though I try to drive conservatively, I still get through £40+ weekly, just running the wife and kids about town.
I've spent the last 20 years on public transport / walking /bicycle so I feel I've earned the right to sit in my metal box as I get older and despite knowing that getting motorised would be expensive, the cost of fuel is a shock!

I pick up scrap cars all over the county. The job is getting harder for a number of reasons, not least the rising cost of diesel.

Fortunately I can afford it at the moment and only need to spend £40 a week on fuel so it doesn't really affect me, but with predictions that a litre could hit £2 in a couple of years then that might be a different case - I might have to think of getting the 10 speeder out of mothballs in the garage.

I'm lucky only live 15 minutes walk from work - so we rarely use the car - only when coming back to Sussex or supermarkets realy - If we go to Leeds, Manchester or York get the train anyway due to parking etc plus you can enjoy a beer or two if you haven't got the car.

I'm lazy and will use my car whenever possible to get about. I hate waiting on public services. I only have a small engine car anyway.
