The Premier League isn't really overpriced is it?

My answer is 'Yes' and it's over hyped, over exposed and often the games are not that good but let's get there and then decide for ourselves ;o)

so because people accept the prices it doesnt mean they are overpriced?

that maybe some sort of rule of economics or something, but to me something is overpriced if it doesnt offer value for money.

If we want to look at this from an economists perspective, then it depends on what the supplier is trying to achieve. If it's PURELY about the maximisation of revenue from ticket sales, then yes, you could argue that while tickets sell-out, the price is correct, not overpriced. However, you would think that the nature of this particular market, would have football clubs focussing on broadening their customer base. By having a cheaper price, you will see less ticket revenue in the short-term, BUT, you are making it accessible to more people. That's more potential customers when supply rises (expansion of stadiums), or gives you a wider customer base which brings you more chance of maintaining sales levels if the quality of the product drops. Also, revenue is not restricted to purely ticket sales, and revenue streams such as merchandising would suffer if it's the same customers week in, week out, as opposed to adding new customers from week to week or season to season.

.... I could go on, but I'm starting to bore myself now.

In short, yes the myopic economic arguement of maximising tickets sales revenue in the short term would suggest the prices are not too expensive in grounds that sell-out, but there are plenty of economic aspects that would argue against that being the sole measure. Shrinking your customer base by pricing pople out is not a good medium-term economic approach.

To be fair though the Bescot is a cracking little ground and when they're playing well it's rocking.

Classic Crodo.

The point about English football being overpriced is a fair one. My old local team, St Albans City (Blue Square South), charge 11 quid for standing - the SEVENTH LEVEL of the English pyramid.

Whitehawk charge £8 for the ninth level. About the same cost as the Dutch second tier.
