In the cold light of day after what can politely be called the worst performance in recent memory, its time to take off the rose tinted Gus specs and realise that our manager is not the ' special one ' That, at the moment, he has limited tactical ability. He is not experienced enough to be able to spot players who can make the transition from a lower division to a higher level. He makes emotional statements to the press about his passion for playing a particular way and then allows his players to play exactly the way that he purports to despise. And then, publicly criticises them for not being brave enough. He is attracted to ' lightweight, flair ' players and has filled the side full of them, ignoring the fact that the Championship is all about pace and physicality. He drops a talented young centre half, who, like himself is learning all the time and replaces him with a none-too-tall right back. We have 5 goalkeepers at the club, 4 of whom now appear surplus to requirements. We appear to have lost all direction in how to play at this level. The manager is changing his mind every 5 minutes and can't seem to cope with injuries and suspension. Instead of concentrating all his efforts on the ' engine room ', the midfield, he is tinkering with defence and attack all the time. We are ' carrying ' players, who are not up to top 10 Championship standard ( Painter, Harley and Sparrow to name just three )
Gus has to learn quicker than he is. Last night was totally unacceptable. It was abysmal and against a very poor side. We are barely a win above the very lowest reaches of the table and are now starting to look over our shoulders, rather than at the top. A relegation struggle is not on Mr Bloom's agenda and he has been more than generous in bowing to every one of Poyet's whims.
The honeymoon is over....will the marriage survive its first crisis.
