Do you think Potter has already had what will in years to come be considered his most successful spell in his [British) managerial career?

Depends how you value success.

If he had stayed at Chelsea, and they had been relegated, he would have achieved godlike status.

Was it transformation? We came 15th and 16th in his first two seasons, 15th and 17th in CH's first two.
So yes the 9th was amazing and we will all be grateful for that, and yes in his first two seasons the football was better, but ultimately league position is the important thing.
Compare that to the impact RDZ made and it's hardly a transformation.

Exactly. Grate should be kept only for Dean Wilkins. He finished 7th compared to Potter’s 9th and so is twice as gooder but no one mentions Wilkins because Dick Tight controls the MSM.

Was RDZ really better? With GP we were better defensively. We changed formations several times during each match. RDZ is a one trick pony.

Need to bear in mind it took 2 years for GP to transition the team from CH’s tactics. Once GP had his “own team” we played good football and scored lots of goals in the last 6 months he coached us.

It was easier for RDZ to transition from GP. When “one trick pony” RDZ was found out by other club’s analysts our results nosedived.

TB and PB are professionals. They realise players and club personnel will move on to massive Champions League Clubs if the opportunity arises. They said GP left on amicable terms.

For what it’s worth, GP was right when he said some fans need a history lesson. We are a medium size club with a 30k stadium. We don’t have a massive global fan base and we are not owned by mega rich owners.

I am glad we are owned by a fan who is not prone to hissy fits like some on this forum.

Potter did an excellent job, especially taking over a team with little appetite (or apparent aptitude) for passing football - and turning us into an accomplished ball-playing outfit.
But I was looking back at that game at the Emirates in April 2022 that turned it all round for him…what a team!

But I’d argue if Chelsea hadn’t sacked Tuchel, and Potter had stayed, and with no RDZ we would not have got into Europe.

Yes we were 4th, but in 1974 Carlisle United were top after three games, yet finished 22nd

No one really knows whether Potter would've achieved Europe if he had stayed, but it was looking promising before his departure. Nevertheless, Brighton were elevated to new heights during his tenure (achieving mid-table stability) then De Zerbi came in and took the club to even greater heights by qualifying for Europe.

I don't think our success can be put down to one manager, as it was the combination of all three Premier League managers (CH, GP, RDZ) that got us to this great position we are in currently.

Won’t be tossing them back, it’s a 5 year agreement, family and work colleagues can go, and I will do the odd game if I fancy it, safe in the knowledge that GP, if it is he that’s in the dugout come August, is my 29th permanent Albion manager, so it won’t be forever

I don't think we ever saw Potter's ceiling. The season in which he left looked promising for us, we were fourth when Potter left which suggests that we could have exceeded that 9th place finish.

Perhaps fans' expectations have grown over time but 9th place is what I would call a successful season for us, and same with 11th. I would like to see Brighton continue with mid-table stability however TB will likely be much more ambitious than that.

Happy to disagree. If Potter Is the best qualified candidate and you want a poorer one then that’s your call.

I am fully with you that love of family is the most important thing in life. Suspect Graham Potter does too, which is why he decided to quadruple his salary and secure his family’s future.

I wonder how many posters on NSC would do different under similar circumstances?

I can’t see that many would do differently from our Graham, but we’d all understand there was some price to be paid. And that includes not being able to waltz back.

He is clearly far from 1st choice but then again, better than the vast majority of managers the bookies are linking us with who have never managed at the top level anywhere.

Things will could start to get emotional and difficult for the Potter Out Brigade if McKenna goes to Manure next week and we’ve not filled our vacancy.
