For the first time in recent history I really don’t think they’ve gauged the mood of a large section of the support, but they would argue do they have to? It’s TB’s ‘ball‘ and PBOBE is effectively a paid employee who will naturally tow the party line.

I just hope we get a satisfactory outcome, for all parties, and soon. 👍
I think they do need to gauge the mood. Especially if the results don't materialise quickly. Animosity and unrest will grow and if the crowd are split it will make results harder to come by.

Aside from anything else surely they have a more exciting manager (with no baggage) on their list than XP Potter?

Only Tony and PBOBE know how Potter left. As far as I’ve seen, there was absolutely no public animosity. Who knows what was said in private. But if TB thinks Potter is the best choice, I’m happy with that. There are lots of positives - no need to list them. I was really, really disappointed when he left, as I felt we were on the verge of something really good. RDZ built on that, but blew up a year later. No reason to think that we can’t get back to the way we were playing in early 2022/23 season under Potter mark 2.
Tony is a fan-owner-billionaire-chairman. He WILL have been fuming when GPott f***ed off five games into a new season. The entirety of football knew Boehly is a wildcard. The club and Potter will have discussed intentions for the season, including likely approaches. As for Potter, he must be hugely chastened by his experience at Chelsea. He knew what he was walking out on (the easy life). He thought he could navigate the Kings Road minefield, confident in fact. He was f***ing blown to pieces and hung out to dry by the people who’d assured him he was the Chelsea’s future… idiot (same as Maresca).

Having said all of that, if grown up conversations between Bloom, Barber, Weir and Potter lead to reconciliation (still unlikely) - then so be it. It’s my club of fifty years and it’s never been in a better state. It is what Tony says it is despite the gnashing and wailing of the vocal minority on NSC (of which I’m one, albeit infrequent).

And Potter couldn’t manage a win over Palace in three seasons.
He simply failed to motivate the players in these big matches like RDZ did. Didn’t fit his style to do so.
I’d find it hard to like the guy, second time round.
I can see logic and use it in my life with work and family issues.
However, I throw it right out of the window when it comes to BHA.
If Potter is an option, why isn’t Cooper a better one. Maybe cos he lives in Hove, we wouldn’t have to pay him loads, and he won’t rock the boat. Hardly inspiring reasons.

It was in a better state (form) when Potter left it

This.
Potter was great for us, but we moved on and so did he.
RdZ also was and improved on Potter, until he apparently lost interest.

I hope the next appointment moves us forward again….
I think I probably agree with Han Solo/Swansman whatever he's called this time on most things, but not on football, his posts are absolutely deranged on this subject literally following round a manager who has achieved a lot in Sweden and very little in England. I don't hold it against anyone if they want potter, but my god its a regressive decision, I don't think this envisioned top 4 finish under him, let alone top 10 finish under him will ever happen. Its mediocrity.

I've personally in the last few months seen the fanbase very unified and benefitted from it, if he returns the fanbase will be split straight away and I doubt will ever unify on the subject, and that is number one reason why it would be a terrible decision.

Well be top of the XP table though!! .

I watched the history lesson video and to be fair to him he did say it was him who possibly a history lesson (sort of).

However he also seemed to insinuate that the creation of chances was his job.

So we just need to find out who is responsible for finishing (or creating easier chances).

I think division and Toxicity will come very very quickly.
Talking about the "bad atmosphere that will come", "the toxicity that will happen" and so forth is the ballsless way of saying "I'm going to create a toxic environment against our team and manager if we appoint him". People need to man up. "It will be toxic" = "I will make it toxic".
Its not a law of nature to boo your own manager and make it difficult for your own club. Its a CHOICE.
I actually think it’s beyond that, the first defeat or inept/ineffective performance would be enough.

The word toxic actually puts us all in a bad light which I think is actually a little unfair, none of this would be our doing, which is why part of me still believes TB won’t do it, then again I left the Goldstone in 1997 thinking they wouldn’t knock it down 🙈

I‘d also argue that he’s no better a coach than when he left us in Sept 22, probably worse having been found out at Stamford Bridge, which sort of rides a waggon and horses through all the succession planning narrative.

But normal life goes on, Mrs H commented yesterday that she hadn’t seen me this emotive about the Albion since Archer sold the Goldstone in 1995!
Takes a certain personality to be more emotional about a potential manager appoinment than the club finishing 6th and qualifing for Europe...
I voted fence, it's a difficult one He IS a good manager. He did a job for us before.

However, would his heart be in it again. He left us for glory, it'd be a very difficult job without fan support, and I think this poll and thread shows that's going to be hard to win.
If he's joining the Albion, he's probably paying millions of pounds to take the job. So yeah he's not coming unless he's very much into it.

I'd rather him than some of the mugs that have been linked, but surely it would prompt questions on the whole 'succession planning' narrative.
Succession planning is only going to be as good as what’s available at the time though. If not much is available or willing to come it’s got to stumble sometimes?

I suggest the fanbase was starting to divide in RDZ’s latter days

The only reason the fanbase has been "very unified" in "the last few months" despite 1 win in 10, or whatever it was, is because it's been glaringly obvious that neither the manager nor the players nor the fans have given a single f*** about what we're doing on the pitch since we went to Rome and finished the season. Basically, unified in not giving a shit and the "benefits" of it are at best dubious.

People get so carried away with high xg stats.

xg is the same if the chance falls for Haaland or Lallana.
It's also the same xg if you're playing against Sheffield united or Arsenal.
We created great xg , by having 25 0.1 xg chances, falling to players who weren't great finishers.

The reason we didn't score many was because our play was so slow, it gave decent defences every opportunity to minimise the xg of our chances.

We only started scoring goals when we had Moises, Mac and Biss in midfield, winning the ball back and using it quickly, increasing our xg per shot.

The frequent frustration we felt was a direct consequence of Potter's style.
His big tactical insight was "hope we score from from an opportunity they opposition shouldn't concede."

No thanks.

If that you think that was a divide, you are going to see one serious divide here, without any niceties. It will get nasty.
We may never know but other than the team starting the new season and losing a few games badly I think the vast majority will be accepting, especially if we put together a few wins. Football fans are incredibly fickle and yes so am I when it comes to the Albion.

Booing your own manager from the off is very um….Chelsea?

Its very different to a Chelsea situation, there's massive history between fans and manager here, and while I probably won't hold anything against him, I absolutely understand why people would.

I would like to think Bloom would not piss off 50 percent of the fanbase with Potter I simply cannot believe he would do this. It would be an insane appiontment
All due respect Uncle...im more likely to respect the decision of the bloke that saved our club and has made us what we are today than not. Yes we dont need a History lesson...I'm not exactly a Potter fan but I believe he has every chance of turning the tide a, for the team and b for himself if he's used his supposed educated skills and gone away and done his homework.

I don’t, it’s counter productive and f***ing moronic…imo, but yes I can see it happening but it will be a very small minority who I imagine will be shouted down.

Although most of the booers will be boycotting games or ripping up season tickets won’t they? :lolol:
