Did I see right that there are for sale signs up at the Pilot by Southwick Station?

It looked in pretty poor shape.

Do you think this is all to do with teh smoking ban on pubs and people are not going out as much these days?

The same agents also have their for sale signs on the windmill in southwick as well (although that was still open on Monday) and the pub on Lancing seafront - three horseshoes?

The Pilot = Shit hole.

Windmill = has had a for sale sign outside for around 3 months, but had a sign outside about 1 month ago saying 'new owners'. They are trying to knock this down and build flats in it's place. Been a planning permission for a good 6 months. Don't know the outcome.

I think its got more to do with being a shit pub than people not going in because of the smoking ban.

The Pilot was an absolute DIVE inhabited by scrotes, thieves and pikeys. It had more raids in there than Dresden in the 40's.

As a rule, if a pub has a giant flag of St George permanently strung up outside, its generally one to be avoided I find.

I cannot confirm, but looking on beerintheevening.com, they have a review from November 2009 which says;

"But the most astonishing thing about this pub for me was the fact that this is probably the only pub in the UK that still allows smoking, the place was like a fog and there were people actually sitting inside smoking and using the ash trays provided."

Yes....that one along from Mile Oak Road and Old Shoreham Road crossing towards Holmbush has seen better days

Windmill always looks pretty grim to me, although I admit I've not darkened its doors for many years, rarely bothered with it.

The Cricketers is alright as a football pub (always good for World Cup games), but its a tad impersonal for my liking. Not really somewhere you can got for a couple of quiet ones with a paper. I like to sit at the bar and have a natter, I've never really felt its that kind of pub, if you knowarrmean.

Living in the real world.
Went to the windmill for a function a few weeks ago, oh dear.
The place is only open until may because the brewery cannot find a buyer for the land, so i am told. Had a tetanus jab when i left.....

Pebbles on the Port is where the intelligent and educated people of Southwick go I think you will find. On a sunny day you can sit on the patio and have a pub lunch whilst admiring the splendid site of the Southwick Power Station in all its glory. It is not to be missed.

The Pilot always strikes me as a pub that is calling out to be taken over by one of the eating house companies, like Country Carveries (Sportsman) or Harvester or similar and completely change its image and attraction towards familes and eating. Having not been in there I am not sure whether it is big enough but it appears so from the outside.

Yeah I think he does.

Ive started frequenting the Cricketers latley. Its had a bit of a re-fit ad I think it has a new guy running the bar.

Been drinking here (regularly) fairly recently too. Nice, decent boozer. Although a tad expensive, even for pub standards.
