It's a very different show to those you mention. For me there's not much comes anywhere near close to The Sopranos, The Wire and Sons of Anarchy. I actually thought Breaking Bad was patchy
I'm in a minority of one but thought the Sopranos was comic book laughable, the Wire very slow and Sons of Anarchy just crap. Breaking Bad by contrast was decent. For me, Gomorrah is head and shoulders above any other 'crime' series made in recent memory, just a stunning piece of work on every level, peerless.

Bloody hell! " comic book laughable" that's a controversial statement. How so? The other two I can appreciate might not be to everyone's taste.

I too really liked Gomorrah and not just because I bear a remarkable resemblance to Don Pietro! The way it was filmed against the backdrop of the Naples slums made it incredibly gritty. As did the violence which was not remotely stylised but just efficiently brutal. I also liked the sound track even if I couldn't understand a word.

For me the only real weakness was the acting of both the key characters Ciro and Genny. Both were really one dimensional with limited acting chops and both kept pulling the same face in whatever scenario.

Watched the first episode. I was bored shitless.
I couldn't watch anything with fictionalized extreme fantasy evil. I mean, what the f***? Unless it is a redemption tale.

Now, as a big Batman fan (well, you know. Cartoon capers and that, plus I liked the darker tales) I have a feeling there is no redemption for Oswald.

In fact, I recon he may end ups as master criminal, The Penguin.

I could of course be wrong.

And I am, as always open to persuasion.
