Hats off to Chris Sutton for calling it right and shutting up all the other muppets on 606.

Hmm..was it reckless or using excessive force?..If you think it was careless it looked a very natural step of the defenders leg to me.

It looked more likely an unnatural drag/leaving his leg in a "vulnerable position to be fouled" to me..something that strikers probably learn before they learn to shoot on target nowadays.

They'll breed footballers with four legs soon and then we can really call them pussies ��

Way game's gone unfortunately..fully accept it but only feel more distanced from this money orientated game

I think refs need to be on top of strikers leaving theie legs in "careless" positions.. even if they did get this one right

Commentator on 5Live called it ridiculous and said it was " Never a penalty in a month of Sundays " …. " Ridiculous waste of VAR " " Brings whole process in to disrepute " etc etc.

Roundly mocked by Chris Sutton.

Aaron cited on R5's 606 end of show cheating player mocking section, but Sutton refused to accept the 'nomination' and his name was withdrawn.

Let's see the bedwetting on MOTD. It will be another chance for clueless pundits to stir the 'VAR controversy' pot, no doubt. Why oh why can't the FA sort it out?

Why oh why don't they just stay at home and read the Daily Mail?

Frustrating game for a BHA supporter. We were mainly second best but got out of jail with the VAR call then got a winner that partially made up for all the times we have been the better team and failed to capitalise.

Yes. my thoughts totally - how many times have fans been on here this season and bemoaned our luck, in that we have dominated and got very little in return.

I humbly accept it was a pen ..as the referee gave it But it's not the game I grew up watching (accept some improvements needed to be made!) ..but gone too far...will that suffice? I'm not looking for argument just my ipinion

Just watched replay and even more of a joke then I thought at time. I wasnt at Villa but watching highlights thought disallowed goal for foul on Ryan was also a joke. They must get back to letting refs fef and only interfere for bad errors. The decision today will just encourage players to go down

Surely the point is virtually no one in the stadium thought it was a pen, no one appealed and the ref clearly didn't think so. Possibly by the letter of the law it is but it hardly rates as a clear and obvious error and if Chris Sodding Sutton thinks they got it right then that's all I need to take the opposite view.

Yes, I didn't see it either. Aaron didn't appeal it - he just rolled about in agony. We were all wrong.

The VAR team and refs have been criticised for not correcting referee errors when missing pens. On this occasion, probably after prompting from the VAR directorate in Referee HQ, they got it right. New rubric. In response to howls of anguish about 'not given one pen' accusations.

And we would have been sick if tonight the MOTD analysis showed we had been robbed of a penalty today.

That said, I accept that the clear and obvious rule is a grey area (recently admitted) and that the VAR rubric is far from settled. There will be more anguish till it is settled.

It may take years before all the details are ironed out, but with the option of no VAR or eventually VAR after endless VAR debate, we have gone Hard VAR with post VAR introduction adjustments. It is what the majority of those voting (i.e., Everybody) wanted.

In the meantime, we got and scored a penalty and won the game so, for this evening at least, I don't give a shit and am toasting VAR and all it's upholstery.

Please don't make me have to raise the drink driving, speed limit and seatbelt laws again.....and how the rules and limits have been adjusted over the years in order that they slowly become more and more appropriate <sigh>

I’m with you. I didn’t cry when VAR deprived of us goals, they weren’t legit. There are some crap officials in the PL, hitherto costing teams results, now there’s a chance of correcting blunders and the overlooked.


But I can see why many other fans would rather see a load of injustices and critical mistakes in a season, Euro’s or WC, just to have no VAR delays.

Fair enough !! Don’t get me wrong I think we have been hard done by with luck so far this season so stealing a victory feels like our luck balancing itself out but if I stand back and look at that decision it is very soft.

You'll struggle to find anyone who isn't Brighton supporter who thinks that was a pen. Even Glenn Murray on 5 Live a moment ago could barely conceal his embarrassment talking about it. But that is how the game is now, so I'm happy to take the freak decisions when they go in our favour because we will be on the wrong end of them too. But no doubt VAR and it's bizarre interpretation is absolutely ruining football.

I can find someone else - the VAR official who reviewed it and decided it was a clear and obvious error - I don't believe he is a Brighton supporter.

I dislike VAR because I think it takes spontaneity out of the game and pretends to make the game a science not an art. I would love it pulled. But whilst it’s here i have to live with the shit it throws at us and I’ll take the shot it gives us. **** it
