The penalty

But our players keep giving the ref the option to give it, that's what we need to cut out. Church was going nowhere, it was poor defending to get into that position. But even at 1-1, the game was there to be won. We can't moan too much about the penalty really.

I see Crewe got another penalty yesterday, I wish we could have their luck!

The ref was probably trying to square things up, after he realised he should have shown Bangura a red card about a minute previous to that.

It's not right, but it's the way these refs work especially against away teams.

I felt it was a pen at the time, although I've not seen it on the tellybox yet. Defenders USUALLY get away with those, but it was clumsy, he was climbing all over him, and it was totally unnecessary as it wasn't really in a dangerous position. I don't think we can have any complaints.

the crowd were still on the refs back as stated, i think if the incident had happend at the start of the game the penalty would have not been given, saying that i thought we got away with a foul on thier keeper for our goal, refs are refs a total fooking mystery.

I'm sick of referees falling for the backing in from forwards. Have they never played the game? Do they not see these things? It is pathetic. That Bangura challenge when they were all calling for red - nothing wrong with the challenge. Anyone knows to jump you have to use your arms, so they are likely to be flailing in the air. Yet because the crowd react and a few players did too, he has to bring out a card.

To be fair, Bangura did elbow their fella right in the face! That is still a straight-red offence. Buut it seems that refs are reluctant to enforce it now.
I thought he was going to walk for that. accidental or not, it's dangerous play!

Bangura was very, very lucky to stay on. He had no chance of winning that ball, but just launched himself at the player leading with his arm, completely flattening the guy. I was pretty convinced he was going.

It is funny I thought it was probably a yellow at the time but the views on here suggest it should have been a red. The penalty was definitely a bad decision as their forward was backing in the whole time and Heath was just trying to get the ball. Definitely a case that the referee felt he couldn't turn them down after the Bangura incident though.

Oh the cruel irony of football and ref decisions. Yes their pen looked a little soft but has anyone noticed that for our goal Owusu collided with their keeper and whilst it looked a genuine attempt at the ball I've seen many refs blow up for far less.

Despite that penalty we had shots, shots that weren't wide, shots that didn't trouble the keeper, shots that were blocked. If the players made better choices in these situations, either passing instead of wasting the attack, going for power instead of precision, or precision instead of power, etc. maybe we could have converted some of those shots.

Point is, just or not, the penalty was given. It gave them a a very good chance of a goal, they took that chance. It did not give them the win. They earned it by taking their chances. If we took our chances, maybe we would have won. Lets stop blaming the rub of the green, the refs' decisions, etc.

.

How we miss Murray, we need him back more than Forster imo.

Church was backing into Heath , most decisions would go in favour of the defender in this situation as Church seemed to crumple very easily.
