Tonight was absolutely superb, on par with the first two. Last week episode reminded me alot of Band Of Brothers in the last few episodes after they took Foy in Belgium.
The Pacific was well over-hyped, probably only half as interesting as BoB. I've watched up until Ep5 and have been disappointed with everyone, its not as if there are not good bits in each, its just that no episode outside the first has really kept the juices flowing for the whole show, unlike BoB.
Lost interest in it after the second episode - it just didn't gel the way BOB did. Just started watching HBO's latest offering "Treme" about the aftermath of hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. I liked it - very atmospheric, lots of jazz, good performance by John Goodman and a guest appearance by Elvis Costello.
Watched episodes 3,4,5 and now 6 - it's crap. Nothing like BOB, the first 2 episodes were good but it has dropped into serious bargain bin territory now. I keep downloading them in case it improves - it hasn't.
I have watched the first 20 mins of Ep 6 (before my laptop crashed) and for war scenes junkies this episode would satisfy those looking for the BoB Carentan experience. Apart from that it is disappointing.
I got to see the first two parts on sky three the other day and i must say it looks rather brilliant. Sadly, i can't see the rest as i dont have sky and am unwilling to watch online with imperfect conditions.
Downloaded from Piratebay - HD versions, excellent quality. It's not BoB, and Ep6, whilst being very warlike seemed to consist solely of body parts being blown off or head shots and frothing-blood-at-the-mouth deaths. It just doesn't work for me I'm afraid.
I absolutely LOVED BoB, but I have to say The Pacific has not lived up to the hype.
I can say with confidence that no mini series will EVER better BoB, and despite the huge budget and same directors, The Pacific has failed to get even close.
I was willing to give it another few episodes, but by the sounds of it from people on here it doesn't get any better.
It's a huge shame, but perhaps it was wishful thinking to expect anything from what is a really weak storyline (Is there one?)
just up to episode 9 and have to say it really has kicked on since about episode 6 . Think the thing that they got wrong with this is that you dont really care about the characters as much as in BOB but since episode 6 they have concentrated on 'sledge' and 'shelton' . has been quite moving in my opinion , definitely worth perservering with.
Episode 3 was pure Catherine Cookson stuff I agree, but thats been the only one (thankfully). The rest of them have focussed very much on the campaigns and the battles.
As per the general consensus, no, its not as good as BoB, but that doesn't make it "crap" by any means as BoB set the bar incredibly high. I've certainly been enjoying it. The scale and spectacle of it all is tremendous for a TV series, and its also taught me a fair bit on that Pacific aspect of WW2 - the prologues to each episode with interviews with the old soldiers and actual footage works brilliantly I think, and really sets the scene for each one.
