It’s estimated 30bn of debt was created by Truss’ mini-budget alone and yet the public are expected to cough up for this chaotic experiment. Nice.
After years of campaigning by the work of right wing client journalists, the disaster of Brexit and the corrupt Vote Leave cabal, Tufton Street finally got its leader and its day in the sun.

Without BOE intervention we were hours from total collapse.

The big re-build starts today, its a long hard road out

It should be called the Tory failure budget - Brexit disaster, covid test and trace / PPE waste, Trussonomics. Their catastrophic handling of our economy are the main reason they have to impose yet more austerity on us

We don't need another budget, we need a general election so we can get rid of these clowns and their disaster economics.

You peasants need to start paying back my furlough, I got a second job whilst on 80 percent.

Allowed me to pay off credit card, boost savings and get a new kitchen

The Hunt is even smugger than Smug Eddie - and he is a complete and utter Hunt to boot.

The Budget will be designed to please the markets. Why? The Tories are investors and they want their investments protected. They have long since given up any hope of winning the next GE so there is no reason to have any "vote winning" measures in the Budget. It's too late for that.

The Tory Budget measures will be to protect their vested interests and f*ck the future for the next Labour government. The Tories don't give a flying f*ck about us or the services so many desperately rely on.

It isn't going to be pretty.

Certainly was. The Treasury and HMRC gave no thought to putting in safeguards for the CJRS, SEISS or Bounceback loans. Incompetence at a staggering level but typically nobody being held to account.

The noises coming from Hunt and Sunak is that everyone will be paying more tax, but in what way/how much remains to be seen.
The low paid won’t be paying more tax.

But those earning upwards of £125,140 will see a tax hike to 45%, aligning with the rate for those earning over £150,000.

All rushed out to save businesses and jobs.

92.5% of which was paid back or is being paid back.

The frauds total £3.3b. I agree with you, in that the state should be going after the criminals.

Amazed Sunak doesn't get more stick over the pandemic. He did little to tighten up the schemes in place, it was open to abuse.

I know a builder who claimed furlough as a sole trade and worked pretty much throughout.

They were kind of allowed to under the self employed scheme rules, as it was impossible for HMRC to know in real time whether folk had business and to what extent. But then taxed on the lot.

Oooh, I wonder if he votes Labour or Conservative [pretty sure builders don't vote Green]

And I wonder how honestly he completes his annual Self-Assessment submission to ensure he's paid the correct amount of tax?

Might he be a "cash only" business?

Fine line between working the system and theft/fraud ....

Doubtless, at some point in the future he will be complaining that his state pension does not allow him to maintain the lifestyle he has become accustomed to?

My pension pot has now bounced back to pre-KamiKwazi budget levels which is a relief. Let's see what today holds.

Maybe I should have, but it was someone I was acquainted with and had done work for me in the past. I just won't be using him again

If you haven’t reported him and certain he’s broken the rules over it, im not overly sure you can complain about him.

If everyone did their bit and reported people then we could claim back some of the fraud.

I just took a look and UK government debt per GDP is now an eye watering 98%. To put this in context this is very near to 50% more than Germany.

Good luck paying this down Jeremy.

The UK is paying the highest rate of electricity in Europe and fourth highest for gas.

Just give me my 10% on my pension in the same way I've got to give 10% to my staff.
Do you have to give your staff 10% ? At our place we don't have annual pay awards as part of our contracts so we have to try to cadge a 1-2% pay rise every couple of years .

Do what our boss always does, moan about increasing costs and that times are hard and sack someone every now and again..

Have you been on Mars these last few years? By all means criticise the Tories for sleaze and have a go at Shameless Hancok, but to say that they don't give a fxxxK is quite frankly absurd. The covid years saw millions on furlough and thousands of businesses helped with levels of generosity that surprised everyone at the time. Now millions of househo;ds get £400,00 off fuel bills and all pensioner households get an extra £300.00 on top of winter fuel payments plus hep for millions getting benefits.

the schemes were deliberatly loose to ease access. the nation demanded action taken quickly, alternative would be a bureaucratic mess taking months to assess and implement. you are suppose to declare that income and excessive claims clawed back through tax - like your builder example (pretty common one). the rules cant be changed in retrospect, without criminalising thousands that stray over the edges of those new arbitary rules.
