I think we should probably expect two of Alzate, Baluta, Richards and Sanders to go out on loan. They can’t all be the next CM in line, and as it stands they’d be blocking each other from U23 appearances too.

Unless Sanders is now being considered as a RB in all seriousness.

My hunches
Richards is only 18. His next step is to play regularly in the under 23s. He looked assured v Crawley but lets not get too carried away. Perhaps an astounding performance in the Carabao Cup in a few weeks turns a few heads...
Sanders is surely not being considered as a RB
Wouldn't be surprised to see more loans.
Connolly, Baluta, Sanders and Alzate are at a stage where they all need need regular adult football... will they get much with us and a likely 25 man squad ahead of them... ?
Potter played youth out of necessity not choice at Swansea. Quite the gamble to go with any of that quartet in a premier league line up come August/September.

Of course if Bloom really is sitting on his hands and the recruitment team have shut up shop for the year then all bets are off. *

*he's not. and they haven't.

The U23s looking dangerously weak now. What are the club playing at? Too busy signing looking at the first team while we sleepwalk toward Div 2 of PL2.

Graham Potter in the interview in today's i: “There were options for us [at Swansea] in terms of experienced players that we could have used but you try to be as meritocratic as possible,” he said. “If Dan James showed himself to be the best option then it was my job to give him that opportunity. I don’t think it’s necessarily about age, it’s about players and what they do on the pitch and then picking the best team. We have got a lot of options and it’s the job of the coach to make the right decisions and I’m looking forward to that.”

I think you'll see more academy products on the bench, if not in the starting XI, and possibly coming on in the later stages of games rather than the usual Kayal for Gross swap.

Having seen his FAC performances last season, I thought he needed more experience of senior level football before being in contention for one of the 25 valuable squad positions.

He's still Under 21 this season, so wouldn't take a squad place.

You’re right; I thought he was a year older. Still couldn’t see him making the match day 18 though, so far better to get a season of regular senior football at a lower level under his belt.

In the Liverpool match at the Amex back on January 12, Beram Kayal did indeed come on for Pascal Gross in the 79th minute. Max Sanders was also on the bench.

In the Argus on the Tuesday, Hughton was quoted as saying (about Sanders): "It's about the squad and trusting. Arguably in a two in midfield we were always going to put Beram on first, but it's great experience for him."

To my mind, that one quote sums up Hughton's approach to youth development whilst at Albion and is probably as big a reason as any as to why he is no longer manager of the club. Bloom CLEARLY wants to start seeing a return on his huge investment in the academy, but it ain't ever going to happen when you have a first team manager who, in his own words, doesn't trust the youngsters. (It pains me to know that Palace's manager DID trust at least one of his youngsters less than 18 months ago and they are now £45 million richer as a result).

Spank the Manc
Sánchez starts for Rochdale vs Bradford

Mlakar starts for QPR vs Watford

Molumby not involved for Millwall vs Sociedad as he is still building fitness after a minor injury earlier in the summer

White is likely to be involved as Leeds play Cagliari tomorrow.

He’s next on the out list once we announce our new striker in the week
Although on today's showing, Locadia rather seems to want to make an application for that job. Whether he will - or should - get it I've no idea - just that he looks as if he'd quite like to be asked!

We don't need a new striker, but the question is whether we're comfortable having the 3 going into the season or if we want an u23 player to make up the 4th. If we do, then Connolly is the man. But if it's better for his development to go out, he will. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of weeks...
