The official 'good Sussex family day out' thread

Let's have a thread of good places to go out and about with the family, hopefully throwing up some lesser-known places that give some inspiration to others...

First up: today we headed North out of Worthing to RSPB Pulborough Brooks. However we didn't go onto the main bit of the reserve, for which I think there is an admission fee payable, but we took a walk around the forest on the site, taking in a series of 8 geocaches we wanted to find. It was truly glorious and the geocaching was fantastic with some very cunning hiding having taken place.

The geocaches essentially guided us on an easy circular walk of 2 miles or so through some lovely woodland on what was a warm and sunny day.

When we'd completed the walk we went to the visitor centre and sat outside looking over the main area of the property eating some ice cream that had been made just up the road in Pulborough.

A great spot for a walk with kids, particularly if you take in geocaching (and you should give it a go if you haven't before) and/or dogs.

The Wetlands centre in Arundel is a nice day out for the kids, plus you have the benefit of The Black Rabbit which has a lovely kiddie friendly garden and is in a beautiful location.

Hell, I'd say the whole of Arundel is a good day out. Take plenty of bread to feed the ducks, wear some sturdy shoes and you're laughing.

I also have a soft spot for Brooklands as well, they don't have masses but they do it well, and despite their cafe looking a bit worn, the food isn't bad.

Love the RSPB place as well. One of only a few places with no height restriction barrier so you can take a campevan in there as well. We visted Stoneywish nature reserve on the outskirts of Ditchling last week which was lovely, fiver to get in, very underused, few animals, lots of ducks and geese, several ponds with masses of fish and large play area with tyre swings and equipment plus a small cafe. Also basic campsite next to it.

We went to Arundel Castle we loved it plus the gardens and the Crown fountain are amazing.

Heaven Farm at Furners Green TN 22 3RG on the A275.

Nature trail with walks through woods with streams, very nice when the bluebells are out.
Tea rooms.
Farm museum.
Also a campsite.

We have always really enjoyed visiting Devils Dyke and local surrounding areas, incredible views on a good weather day, great walks etc

Yep, we used to go there a lot.
As well as Fisher's Farm, but I think that may be too commercial now, just like the Halloween place, forget what that's called, some farm place.
Wilderness Wood was good for trekking around and For picking an Xmas tree.
Scotney Castle was ok, as was Leeds Castle.
Regulars at Herstmonceux, Bodium, Hever and Battle, amongst others.
