Spare a thought for Javine Hylton. It was hard enough 21 years ago making the final 6 before losing out on a place in the 5-piece group. Now they are one member down, she's a housewife, hasn't got the invite back but Girls Aloud are set for a lucrative reunion.

I always thought The Spice Girls should have replaced Geri Halliwell with Louise Redknapp and carried on as a 5-piece while they were still A-Listers, while Little Mix should have signed up Anne-Marie the moment Jesy flounced off.

Disagree. Javine was never in Girls Aloud, she was in the competition that created GA. I also think it would be in poor taste and a bit disrespectful to Sarah Harding to just add in a replacement, when one isn't needed. Different if it's a duo or threesome, but loads of five-strong groups carry on when on one leaves – Spice Girls, Boyzone, Take That, etc, etc

I am/do and, personally, I wouldn't call it 'crap'. There are some damn fine pop songs in the GA back catalogue.

I never said Hylton was in GA, I said she just missed out. All the worse really, considering Walsh and Roberts never even made the final 10 but got back in as others dropped out.

As for 5-piece bands dropping down to 4, I would argue that none of those bands you mentioned were as good with 4 members and I would also put it to you that the world's greatest band The Rolling Stones took it to another, higher level when Mick Taylor replaced Brian Jones dec'd, i.e. Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main Street.
