I don't like clapping, or whistling in songs.
I'm (generally) inclined to agree . . . But there are a few exceptions.

Dock of the bay, although Otis didn't do it, nor ever hear it, It does work.

good clapping is subtle percussion . . . Not special bus/happy 🙄

This one is interesting. No clapping on the original recording, but as Live Aid and performances to this day show, it wouldn't be complete without the audience participant claps.
