Precedent set by Sunderland this season, who suspended Titus Bramble after he was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

I'm not recommending that, just pointing it out.

I get the feeling that was initiated by Steve Bruce because as soon as O'Neil came in he was back in the team (unless the case has been resolved which i haven't heard)

Sexual assault is a statutory offence in England and Wales. It is created by section 3 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 which defines "sexual assault" as when a person (A)

intentionally touches another person (B),
the touching is sexual,
B does not consent to the touching, and
A does not reasonably believe that B consents.

Okay, then why did the Argus say "accused"? If a person is arrested under suspicion of a crime (with a certain amount of evidence but possibly not yet enough to charge), and they are released without charge, then how is it accurate to report that that person was "accused"?

This is lazy journalism. He is a suspect, not the accused. The term comes from the journalist`s belief that during questioning, the suspect will be accused of complicity. It's common - but inaccurate - parlance by some journalists.

I personally find it particularly ironic that the Argus have gone with a controversial headline on the exact same day that the Leveson enquiry is discussing local newspapers.

That's standard. Alleged victims names are never released, nor can they be by law.

In the particular case I'm thinking of (which ultimately resulted in no charges being brought) one co-operative witness identified a number of other potential witnesses (who could corroborate the facts of the alleged case, with a view to establishing that no case existed). ALL of the names put forward by the first witness resulted in arrests.

Do they give you a chance not to be arrested? and just go in and 'help them with their enquiries'? or is there a good reason, either for them or perhaps for you, for them to arrest you instead?
