I’m thinking watch the exit poll and half an hour or so of Tory doom and gloom then sleep till about 1.30 and return to the sofa in time to watch the majority of the results come in through the rest of the night. Not sure I’ll survive if I try and stay awake through all of it.

I’m going to see The Breeders on the 4th but I’ll be back home around 10:30-11:00 pm UK time. What time does the exit poll get announced? I recall last time is was projected onto a building but can’t remember the time.

I have three bottles of champagne in the fridge ready for when I get home. Will add some beers and Negroni and martini ingredients as well. Need to work on the snacks next.

A (Brexit) lifelong close friend of mine watched the all night C4 2019 election coverage for the converse reason. I forgot to look.

The bitterness on Guru-Murthy’s defeated face was palpable.

GBNews/TalkTV … this is my prediction. They’ll simply blame your friend Rushi. “Too liberal, weak on the boats, record taxation, called the GE too early, shouldn’t support Ukraine/former Soviet states, ECHR, blah, blah, blah”. Signalling their full conversion to far right broadcasters, they’ll champion the Truss/Farage alliance and start the far right campaign for 2029.

I might dip into GBNews just to enjoy the heartbreak.

As I said when the election was called, it may be worth seeing laura k having a meltdown at 10pm then watch c4 (with maitlis, sopel, campbell, stewart and KGM and i believe dorries making a flying visit), sky (ridge, phillips) or even itv (peston bradby balls osborne and sturgeon)

I suspect I may be forced towards bbc as my wife is a huge Clive Myrie fan and met him recently

I'm reviewing my strategy.
Normally I would stick the telly and the kettle on at 10 and watch through to about 6, then kip till about lunchtime.
This year, however, it's my son's wedding on Saturday and I'm gonna be expected to shuffle stuff about (dunno what) and help get stuff ready (dunno what).
My choices, as I see them are :
1. stick with the all nighter but have less kip friday ?
2. go to bed about 4, potentially missing some big hits ?
3. go to be about 9, get up at 2, watch till 7ish and have another kip prior to being bossed and moaned at ?
4. something else ?
What should I do ?

I watched a bit of Campbell/Stewart last night. Very good. Stewart is such a smart person, and the way he listens and asks follow-on questions is completely the opposite to conventional political behaviour. No wonder he looked so out of place during that tory leadershit campaign the other year

Yes, Rory Stewart is a very smart and very shrewd observer and I think it is pretty much an open secret that he is a former MI6 operator. It was an interesting observation he (and Alastair Campbell) made last night that we are on the cusp millions upon millions of people about to vote for what they don't want rather than actively endorsing a government that they do want - and an incoming PM with historically low popularity ratings.

Hopefully Starmer has the foresight to realise that the majority he is about to secure is not a necessarily a popular mandate for his programme but more of a national protest vote against the current government.

Interesting times ahead.
