Looking forward to Rooks v Boro tonight in the cold. Plan is to give Michael Klass a very respectful clap as he enters and departs the turf, and then loudly BOO his every touch while the match is actually happening. I'm hoping for pens, if I'm honest.
Any old Whitehawk players turned up at Lewes so I can declare them crap, only for them to score two on debut?

A welcome point for Steyning against Wilf Zaha's Croydon Athletic on Saturday in a 1-1 draw, the equaliser courtesy of a stunning strike by Danny Howick, just scroll through to around 3:44 on the video below.

Lewes well beaten today by Totton. Charlie Austin scored the first on the half volley. Was surprised to see him playing that far down the pyramid as he was doing ok at Swindon last season.
Lewes were poor on Saturday. I don't think they managed a shot on target. Totton weren't amazing, but were decent enough, well drilled and organised and definitely worth the win.

Lewes 1 - 2 Eastbourne Boro.

A decent second half performance from the Rooks wasn't quite enough to turn around a match which had been won in the 1st by (a frankly, better) Borough. Highlights included:

- Boro hitting the bar FROM THE KICK OFF. Toby Bull seemed extremely sanguine about the shot, deciding against doing anything as energetic as jumping for it - absolute scenes in the Philcox as none of us could quite believe what we were seeing as the ball cannoned off the underside of the bar.
- The girl in the hatch gaslighting me that Bovril doesn't actually exist. She had never heard of it and looked at me like I was speaking Swahili. When she asked me what it was I replied "It's a hot, meaty drink" and of course this just added to her utter incredulity. Eventually I had to try my luck in the Rook Inn instead where I was of course delivered a steaming serving of mahogany cow-nectar. (£1.70 @stewart12 )
- Lewes debut of the day: Calvin Ekpiteta - formerly of basically every other team on the IPL. Constantly threatening and fully deserved his 2nd half goal where he beat a couple through sheer skill and dispatched with aplomb.
- Crowd was lively and noisy at both ends considering the numbers.

Bognor tried a shot from kick off the other week as well. Will have to pay attention to Bull's positioning next Tuesday

you're bovril experience sounds like a recent attempt of mine to order a pint of Pravha, where the student barman had no idea what it was, only serving me after I rephrased my order as Staropramen. With that in mind my next trip to the bar i ordered a Staropramen from a different student barman, who had no idea what it was and i had to revert back to calling it Pravha. There must have been 5 staff working and each of them only knew the beer by one name and had never heard of the other. it was so weird, i actually wondered if it was a joke.

Sounds nothing like the 1901 lounges.....he was getting served for a start! Had he said 5 of the staff were standing around staring into space whilst the 6th was collecting empties and dropping them causing the supervisor to arrive on the scene with a dustpan and no brush that would have been exactly like the 1901 lounges*

How did you guess?!?!?

The event I mentioned above did actually happen the other week. The solution to not having the brush for the dustpan was to use the big broom used to clean the lounge. It must have been 2 or 3ft wide. Someone held the dustpan whilst one of them tried to sweep the glass into it. It was hilarious and softened the blow of it taking 5 minutes to get served despite there being no one other than myself in the queue.

You'd think given the MWB lounge is the showpiece they'd have the most competent staff running the show. It appears the reality is quite the opposite.

Anyhoo enough about that....

It is astonishing how bad they are, especially early on in the season. I just don't understand it, it's not that hard to efficiently serve a room of a couple of hundred people. Especially when they tend to be fairly well-to-do people.

The 1901 East staff are pretty good, I've no complaints when I've been in there. The staff at the West 1901 did seem to have a disdain for 1901ers that many on the board share

Bognor had a decent 1-0 win at home to Hastings United.
Hastings were reduced to 10 men in the second half but Bognor should have already been out of sight by then having been denied by some excellent goalkeeping.
Hastings never really threatened and a young Rocks side deservedly progressed through to the next round.
