Noticed Pagham are serving through a Hatch at their ground this weekend in a friendly against Worthing, clearly word is getting around that it counts as takeaway.

I know the bar income is important to clubs, but why should they be treated any differently to pubs / pub gardens? I had thought the FA had been clear that the hospitality rules are as per restaurants and pubs.

Trouble is if the rules are per pubs and restaurants that means table service only and only drink with food. Most clubhouses couldn't possibly manage that.

Presumably anywhere serving will be from a hatch or window so no one inside.

My View on the subject is that in reality this is little more than a takeaway beer as you are taking it and spreading out. Locations along Brighton seafront have done exactly the same thing throughout lockdown serving beers from a hatch and letting people mingle nearby. I don't see how this is any different on a scientific level. The rules for elite sport stadia is also that you can drink and watch the performance at the same time, as well in theaters. This is essentially the same but with a football game.

The Isthmian League and other region's equivalents have suspended all fixtures until mid January (so Lewes, Whitehawk, Worthing, Horsham and Haywards Heath amongst others) will have no fixtures in this period. It will be interesting to see the FAs stance on this as it seems pretty untenable for clubs in Tier 3 especially, to continue without fans unless there is a rule change on fans attending or a grant from the FA. They've made a real mess of this for non league clubs when before they were serving them so well. I'd imagine those in the DCMS to look at how they can solve this, although obvious decisions don't seem to be their strong point.

Imagine there will be more friendlies (like Whitehawk playing Peacehaven this Saturday) for the players to keep match fit and so they can make some money but it's far from ideal.

On Lewes’ Website there is a pretty honest and up front statement on their view, the lack of alcohol sales will kill them. As well Margate’s update that figures in North Kent are simply out of control and they don’t even see it as a good idea (quite rightly) to even play behind closed doors have withdrawn from the FA Trophy. Makes you wonder if the season will be finished at this rate.

Worthing United have got the go-ahead from the council to sell alcohol as long as it is pitch side, so think I'm gonna head off down there on Saturday for the FA Vase game against Edgware Town. The game is being replayed because of an illegible player for Edgware so should be an interesting tie.

The FA don’t allow alcohol pitchside for Vase games. Don’t build your hopes up.

I have read this rule before, but clubs in the FA Competitions I’ve been to this year in the Trophy, Vase and FA Cup I’ve been able to drink at them all in view of the pitch. Is there a loophole or are some clubs just very relaxed?

I was trying to remember what we did at Steyning in previous rounds. Thinking about it - I think clubs are relaxed. Quite right too. Hope it's a good game!

I went to an FA Cup game at AFC Sudbury around 4 years ago and they closed the curtains to the bar as this is pitch side and usually open.

Rules changed last (?) season (thankfully). You have to designate an area and alcohol can only be consumed in that space.

With the social distancing rules now I assume that will be relaxed again.

I paid for hospitality at Charlton vs. Cardiff City last season and they closed the blinds in the lounge just before kick-off and the start
of the second half. I love Charlton as a club, but treating people like morons is not the way forward.

I don't blame Charlton at all - they're just following the rules - I blame the FA or, failing that, whoever makes up these
f***g stupid rules.

Best of British mate. Real shame as they are a well followed side and would have bought a fair few down. With the capacity capped at 300 them, Chatham and Tunbridge Wells have had to make all of their home games all ticket and they been selling out.

I'll be staying local and watching Jarvis Brook who are rightly thoroughly pissed off that they have 3 home games with no competition from Crowborough so are expecting a decent turn out but can't open their bar.

They are one of the teams with money in the division. The league table won't look very different to how it sits now come the end of the season.

Well that was chuffing brilliant entertainment! Littlehampton through to the next round 5-4 on pens after a 3-3 draw. Sheppey were a decent outfit, for sure, but The Marigolds matched them for effort and detemination all afternoon. Three times we led, each time Sheppey levelled it up - two times within a minute of conceding. Looked like we'd won it in injury time, but Sheppey equalised with literally the last kick of the game to force penalties. One of the Littlehampton penalties had to be retaken twice, after the keeper moved off his line to save - all three pens ultimately missed by the unfortunate home player. All was well in the end, though, with a sudden death penalty winner. So much fun, loads of Albion regulars in attendance in the 204 crowd - enjoyed every minute.
