Indeed. I’m sure you’re aware of Wrexham’s model, which is fine really as it’s at least self-sustainable in the short-term, but Stockport’s owner is throwing cash at it too (though he is at least a wealthy supporter of the club, not just some chancer). They recently signed Antoni Sarcevic, who was captain of Bolton at the time - currently 11th in League One. He didn’t make that move for the ambience of Edgeley Park.

Stockport managed until recently of course, by our very own former Under 23's manager, Simon Rusk.

Indeed they were, and not particularly well either it has to be said. They look a different prospect under Dave Challinor, it has to be said.

I’d argue they have the best squad in the league on paper, so Rusk can at least take some credit for that, even if he couldn’t get them playing.

A step too far for Rusk maybe, l can understand why he wanted to test himself more, but managing a senior team full of mature adult footballers, is very different from being in charge of youngsters. Not everyone can be successful at it.

Yep, the Rooks disappointed.

Highlights were the superb Lewis Carey stop in the first half, the absolutely delicious Juicy IPA and my mate falling over on the Philcox and spilling beer all over himself.

Was it the Only With Love juicy pale? That is an excellent beer. It was a night for Harvey's Old for me though

Most fail tbh, some good managers fail then succeed and some poor managers have the knack of picking good teams. If all the Premier managers had a weekend off not sure the results would be much different.

Had a trip up to South West London, to watch Kingstonian in the FA Trophy, a good 4-1 win for the home side against Farnborough who were top of their respective league. A couple of familiar names in the side if you are familiar with Whitehawk over the years, with Sam Deering and Jordan Rose in the side. Kingstonian looked a very decent side with the pick of the goals coming from ex Crystal Palace, Torquay United and Wycombe winger Jason Banton, delicately chipping the goalkeeper.

Comfortable 5-0 home win for Littlehampton against bottom of the table AFC Varndeanians this evening. Didn't get out of first gear, in truth. Joe Benn only got the one (42 for the season). Hotting up at the top of the SCFL Premier Division; Saltdean top by a point but Littlehampton have a game in hand. Bexhill, Newhaven and Pagham not out of it either.

Went to watch Crawley Down Gatwick v Peacehaven this evening.

Not a classic, a game of very few chances as both sides struggled with the windy conditons in front of just 33 spectators.

The visitors won 1.0, the goal coming after the Crawley keeper made a fine save from a penalty but Peacehaven were quickest to react and headed home the rebound.

Made the trip up the windswept Enclosed Ground to watch the Hawks take on Herne Bay. Wind was a big factor in this game with the ball swirling every goal kick. The Egyptian king Adam El-Abd gave away the first goal with a poor drive forward that presented a 1 on 1, for Herne Bay with a second for them just after half time. Shoutout to the Herne Bay fans for singing all night and even bringing a few flares to the party. Whitehawk got a late consolation to set up a big finish, but the Hawks could only rattle the post. Big month of football ahead for me, with 19 games across the month I’m attending, the Chelsea game should be my 89th of the season, as well as a couple of double headers.

Best for sure was Kingstonian 3-4 Worthing, two top quality sides going at it, and worst, probably a 0-0 between Whitehawk and Saltdean in August in pre season, nothing happened, mind you it was 26 degrees and I had a pint sitting a top the old Withdean stand in the sun, so not all bad.

Says a lot about the attractiveness of both Worthing and Whitehawk this season.

Well there has been very little beer drunk atop of those old Withdean stands, as alcohol was banned during their tenure there. It's only been since they were relocated to the likes of Whitehawk and Newhaven when the Albion moved out, that they have welcomed drinkers again. Presumably wherever they were cited pre 2000 too.

Lewes absolutely rungstung 5-1 by Potters Bar on Saturday. Blown away by an excellent 1st half showing from the visitors. Started the 2nd brightly, and pulled one back through Taylor Maloney after a switch in the system, but sadly a deserved red for Ollie Tanner - who lashed out a boot as he was being manhandled to the ground - put paid to any chance of a comeback and PB clinically added two more. We go again etc

Spectacularly good pint of Super Pale (4.8%) from Abyss though, and no dickheads to be seen anywhere.

Bowers & Pitsea away next weekend before a Sussex Senior Cup repeat of the fixture at Worthing which I'm absolutely dribbling with anticipation for.

There was a group of dickheads behind the goal in the second half, chanting racist abuse at the away keeper. Very disappointing to witness.

Tough days continue for Steyning Town. An 8-0 thumping from Littlehampton - fully deserved - on Saturday. Good reports of the set up and welcome at Littlehampton - so fair play to The Marigolds.

Well absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, several sides in the Southern Combination have been on the wrong side of heavy defeats by Littlehampton and the free scoring Joe Benn.

We considered we had got way with it lightly at Horsham YMCA, "only" going down to a 4-1, then 4-0 defeat this season! Thank goodness we don't have them to worry about again.

People will never learn, sadly racist dickheads still alive and well from the top of the Premier League, right the way down the pyramid, to parks football.

So sad.
