To be fair though, you've been making clear for weeks that you were going to hate it whatever it looked like.

I agree fully re: the sponsor logo though, it looks awful.

I did reply, post #225, but forgot to hit the quote button

Yes, theirs are ironed on

Thought so. Does ours look so amateur because the sponsor is simply letters as opposed to an image, and is just a basic font with no real border that also clashes with the shirt colour? Plenty of the other Nike kits look fine with their iron sponsors.

I think the problem is that unlike other brands, the Nike shirts don't have a plain white panel in the centre of the front, so the sponsor has to compete with the stripes, hence the Amex transfer is inclusive of the white background . If you look at the Barcelona shirt their sponsor is made up of individually cut out letter transfers, not on a back panel, likewise Chelsea, Liverpool, arsenal, Madrid etc..

And I guess the little blue letters would get completely lost without that obnoxious panel, shame really because I think the kit looks really nice, even the all blue back.

I think that if the sponsers logo was centralised on the shirt it would look alright.

At least it will be our biggest selling shirt ever and make plenty of money for the club.

I think i've seen you repeat the line I made several times now, so it's time to respond to it.

What criteria would you set to determine whether a shirt is successful or not? I can't think of too many beyond:

- How many does it sell to fans.
- How much money does the kit / deal with the kit provider make the club.

I'm taking it as a given that the kit does all players need it to do, as I assume all modern kit will. That said, I've already heard that the Albion squad are delighted with their training kit, saying it is more comfortable and a better fit than their previous Errea stuff.

I'm sure you realise that, as someone who has as much involvement in shirts past and present as you do, you're judging from a completely different viewpoint from nearly all other fans. I showed it to my daughter who immediately said something like "Nike - excellent! When can we get it?" and that's exactly the reaction that the club want - sending thousands of little club ambassadors out across Sussex proudly bedecked in their new Nike Albion kit.

It is the sponsors logo on the home shirt that's really stopping me ordering one. Do like the red and black away one though, and 3 kids all want the away goalie shirt. Just a real shame about the home sponsors logo looking like it's meant to peeled off.

That is exactly the point I think. My teenage daughter who's really not into to football at all has now decided that she wants a Brighton shirt, and to spend some more money and time in the shop, purely because we are now supplied by Nike, and Nike are cool.

Hate the fact that it's a stripey front and a plain back. Makes it look like two different shirts stuck together. Just so the visually challenged can read the numbers. If you're going to have stripes, have stripes all over.

You've hit the nail on the head pretty much with what you've written. Success will be based on sales to fans, nothing else, it is after all just the shirt the players need to wear during matches.

On one hand I'd like to see Nike banned from supplying kit to any UK club until they sort out their worker welfare issues, I doubt that will happen as the whole East Asia sweatshop culture suits us in the west. But if people could empower themselves to make their own decisions, based on what is right, rather than what is perceived to be cool, then that would make Nike et al change their practices.

If this shirt sells well, it makes the club money, that's what the club needs, and if more people buy it because it has a tick on it, then the decision to change seems the right one. There should be no question about the quality of the shirts, and fabrics either. So everyone that matters, wins. Let's hope the players do their part in it too.

I don't like that it's Nike, I expected that.
I am surprise that I don't like the look of it, as usually I think Nike shirts look very good.

I'll be buying the home shirt despite the HORRENDOUS panel on the front. It is at least a bit bespoke, you can't buy it anywhere else. I can live with it.

BUT. There's not a chance in hell I'd buy either the away or third kits. They're so painfully expensive for what they are. Obviously if you go out and buy the teamwear versions and iron on your own albion badge, you are screwing the club out of money. But if they didn't want to be screwed out of money, they shouldn't charge £45 for something you can buy for £14.

Away kit (Nike Striped Division)

PRICE: £16.49

The goalkeeper shirt has individual letters instead of a panel and it looks LUSH.

Is there likely to be red shorts and socks available for the away kit, similar to how we had for the green and black away kit? I only ask because when we play Bolton, Fulham, Derby obviously we'll be in the away kit but the socks and shorts will clash their navy blue/black shorts?

Looks like black shorts.

It's a shame the Amex writing is blue, if it was black then I'm sure individual letters could be used.

I guess the trouble is that the Amex logo has to appear on a solid background, blue or white, by order of the American Express Logocops. This is normal for brand identity, if you read 99% of brand ID guidelines they do not allow the logo to appear on 'broken' backgrounds, or non sanctioned coloured backgrounds. It's a shame they couldn't make a shirt front for us with a white band sublimated into the fabric to allow individual letters to be used.
