It's not something I'm going to get upset about, but it's not the Saint George's Cross any more. is it?

The Union Jack is sometimes depicted in a different colourway, but it's still very clearly the Union Jack as the design is unique and iconic.

If you take a cross and change the colours, it's just a cross in different colours.

Presumably it's some conflict for the twitterati that have spent years droning on about 'flag shaggers' now seeing Keir Starmer wade in to The Sun of all people.

Anyway. Great kit whatever flag is on it.

Despite the fact he's never gonna run around, he's still a better selection than Jordan Henderson.

£124.99 for a football shirt is worth getting upset about though. I had no idea that's what those shirts cost.
And they probably cost no more than a fiver to make. Not least because of the working conditions and pittance the person putting them together gets.

Nigel Farage is raging already !

I like the shirts, although I'm not sure about the cross and side panels. I'm not bothered by it though. And seeing GB News in meltdown makes it all the more better.
Pissed off that idiots like Farage and Joey Barton are toxifying what is a very legitimate argument. Glad Sir Kier and other sensible mainstreamers have said same.

The St George's Cross is our flag, its a symbol of England and Englishness, it unites fans of different clubs behind it. It doesn't needed rainbowfying or a "playful update" defacing from a US sports manufacturer.

Where is the playful update of the multi coloured and distorted Stars and Stripes?

They wouldn't dare.

Tbh, I'm more astounded at the ridiculous price, and the fact that some folk pay this rather than look to China.

I saw Joe Barton wasn’t keen. It’s bisexual and anti-British apparently. And, best of all, apparently we should go after the players that accept this crime, and flog them in the streets.

Then again, he lost all credibility when he put a cigar out in someone’s eye.

This is the big scandal IMHO, especially in a cost of living crisis

Both Nigel Farage and Lee Anderson have had their say already about the 'updated' cross...

Anderson who is apparently 'In-ger-land's BIGGEST fan' (but who is currently boycotting watching any games in protest over something or other) said of it: "See? SEE! LOOK - no wonder I want my country back, FFS"
Some one on the radio this morning claimed the 'cross' represents 'inclusivity' (what? why?) and a 'very good reason' would be needed to justify changing it back again.

Baa baa black sheep, all over again.

FFS.

As others have mentioned that is the thing people should be getting outraged about. TBH when I first saw the design (on this thread) I didn't even know it was supposed to be an edgy, radical, woke take on the cross of St George. Was there even one there on the back of the old kit? I neither know nor care. The price though ...

And now I see Starmer is getting involved, but is it to complain about the outrageous price and the exploitation of both the workers who make them and the cash-strapped parents who will be guilted into buying them? No, he too doesn't like the design and thinks there's votes to be had by complaining about it. No wonder Owen Jones left Labour.

EDIT: I think it's quite a clever move by Nike. They knew what would rattle the most cages. Even if they'd priced them at £200 I bet people would still be moaning about the cross motif on the back.

f***ing awful. Cannot change a countries colours to force agendas. I absolutely am into inclusivity, but this takes it WAY too far. It is a joke. It is the countries national shirt not a political/inclusivity token.
You're being a mug, here. This is a made up narrative. Like 'cake' is a made-up drug.

The 'cross' is simply Nike dicking about and the FA aftertiming about approving it (when my guess is that the bloke who was supposed to check it was watching the racing on channel 4).

I'm worried that you are prematurely turning into red-faced gammon. You're far too young for that. Get a grip!

struggling to be really bothered other than to say i dont think in any way its a representation of the red on white st georges cross- which as we know is a red cross, anything that isnt red and vaguley cross shapped isnt a representation-its a different thing altogether. If the FA want to put something different on the shirt fine, but it aint a st georges cross unless its red and crossy-this new thing isnt red

As a member of the LGBTQI....... community that is part of the areas they want to be included-i think its meaningless. Stick a red cross on the shirt and if you want to makes feel wanted in football just do something about the racism, homophobia, and mysogeny instead, but that would take effort
Guess what. It is red and purple. It isn't a rainbow.

The inclusivity 'narrative' has been made up by people who don't like inclusivity, and then defended by fools, just like when the council staff in London 'defended' the banning of Baa Baa Black Sheep, even though the story it had been banned had been made up (by Sun 'journalists').

When did that come in ?
When it all went Labour. If we don't get rid of Labour soon, I may have to take things into my own hands.

You should have heard Brexity old drink driver Peter Shilton doing mental gymnastics on Radio 4 to try and condemn it.

'Our colours are red white and blue'. No, Peter, the England flag is just red and white.
'I'm a traditionalist'. Well, you'll be pleased to know there's only been a flag on the kit since the 2000s.
'It's just all a bit.......woke'. Is is now? How exactly? And what does that mean?

FFS indeed.

The fact it annoys these people would probably make me buy one if it didn't cost around 120 quid.

Don't just get suckered into The BBC headline. If you read it it states ...

"The Labour leader also called on Nike to reduce the price of the shirts".

Genuine question, what agenda is being forced?
He's fallen into a trap. But he won't look back. Because he loves the cross too much, baby.

With apologies to Francis Zambon and Elvis Presley.

Ah, fair comment. I think he should have just stuck with that though, and not waded into all this flag bollocks.
