The new climate change scandal

It makes me laugh that plenty of people took a few days of cold weather last week as irrefutable proof that global warming is not happening.

Climate change, if it's happening, is measured in years and decades, not days. A couple of weeks of snow would not not render all those arguments statistically irrelevant :dunce:

Precisely. Climate is a definition of how meteorological elements behave over extended periods of time. Weather is a measurement of these elements' behaviour over no longer than two weeks.

It's all just a load of old shite innit. We are coming out of an ice age, and until someone can tell me the rates of temperature change year on year that happened last time we were at this point in the cycle, then I'll remain highly sceptical. Go back 40 years and the scientists were telling us that we were creating "Global Cooling" so maybe we just don't have the understanding of temperature changes over such short periods of time to make a proper judgement.

It is bull.

If climate change is truly happening and there is a general rise in temperature, then why was the summer of 1976 (33.5 years ago) much hotter than the summers of 2007, 2008 and 2009. Surely in 34 years we should have seen this effect of so called "global warming".

Why are we (and a lot of the Northern Hemisphere) now having the coldest winter in 30 years too for that matter as well? Surely these should be getting warmer too.

There is no such thing as Global Warming, just global weather (which when freak weather events occur those whose interest it is to get huge governement funding put down as global warming). Global weather that could be exceptionally hot/cold/wet/dry/foggy delete as applicable at any one time and has been going on ad infenitum.

The global change fraudsters will pull any trick to try to support there unravelling theory.

Regardless wether you call it climate or weather, if its colder then that impacts on AVERAGE temeratures.

Ive yet to see credable data that 2009 was the second warmest on record.

I have seen pictures of 2 Himalayan glaciers, both taken by Everest climber/explorer Sir Chris Bonnington. One set of pics was taken about 35 years ago, the other last year. The difference is extraordinary: they are disappearing, totally without question. Something is happening, even if they climate change lobby screw up their argument or try to over-egg the pudding.

Denying climate change is a childish refusal to hear news that you find unpalatable because it means you might have to make lifestyle concessions.

Seriously, how can cutting down on using resources be a bad thing in the long run?

I work within the industry , you would be amazed at the amount of people who (like me) are in it simply for what they can get out of it.The difference is , i am upfront about it.

Stop your bloody honesty, do you hear me?!

"Childish refusal" hey?

When someone can prove that any changes to my own lifestyle will make any difference I will listen. The fact that fuel cost are increasing has forced me to cut down on my energy consumption.

There was a veggie tree hugger on the TV the other week saying that animals farting is causing more global warming than aircraft, and that we should all stop eating meat! To be honest, it sounds like every looney cause are now jumping on the bandwagon.

And believing it is being in denial of it is the fact that when you open your back door it is the coldest winter in 30 years (and over much of the Northern Hemisphere).

In a side issue, the amount of crops and land needed to produce meat is quite astonishing.

To those who say we should use less resources, it is said that energy cannot be destroyed but can only be changed into a different form. Well, we just need to utilise that new form.

And maybe 1000-2000-3000 years ago they werent there at all.

Alot of solid land now in England used to be marshy swamps or underwater.

And I learnt that just from watching Time Team!

The point is the earth is always changing, and its only because of technology now that we can notice these changes occuring.

They were always happening in different forms, just people didnt give much of a toss 1000 years ago and if they did they didn't have the means to record it.

That is highly debatable. One problem is the lack of diversity, we mainly eat Pork, lamb, beef and chicken and also 4 kinds of fish, cod, haddock, plaice and huss.

a better use of resources would be much better than a switch in resources.

nobody is denying climate change, its Anthrological Global Warming thats the issue, failure to understand the arguments is a bit childish and a form of denial.

Without a baseline measure for "normal" climate change any analysis is going to be a bit like reading tea leaves.

What a surpise , Looney is a climate change sceptic. Who'd have guessed eh?

Sceptisism or critical enquirey is the scientific approach. Holding on to an idea with no clear evidence/article of faith, calling opponents Deniers/heretics and refusing to engage in open scrutiny/witholding data sets is a religous approach.

Thanks.:):clap2:

it is true, and puts into perspective how little air travel actually impacts total CO2 emissions. but as i point out in another thread, there is also all the wild ruminants to consider and we dont see a call for them being culled. this really highights how much more complex the story is, who is going to go without meat, food and goods from abroad (transport is the 2nd largest contibutor of CO2) and electicity to really reduce their CO2 footprint?

In a side issue, the amount of crops and land needed to produce meat is quite astonishing.

depends on the meat. chicken is 2 acres of crop to 1 acre of chicken, cattle is somthing like 4:1. but lamb is negligable over all as it usually uses unproductive land. this can apply to cattle too to mitigate the total impact. pork is somewhere in between and can also be fed on waste food.

Whatever happened to those who thought Lewes would flood every year after the October 2000 floods? They blamed Global warming for it and said that it would be a regular occurance (Hence politicians jumped on the bandwagon and demanded flood defenses to combat this)

Lewes has a natural history of flooding about every 30 years in the areas affected in October 2000, however as the areas that flood have had more delevlopments built there so the effects were more noticable.

This is just one of many examples of where some people have chosen to use global warming / climate change as a scare tactic and use it, dismissing natural cycles, refusing to believe it could be due to a natural event and then dismiss people who don't agree with them rather than try to learn more or investigate it properly, they have their cause so it must be right.

Its good that people that finally people are now starting to ask questions about the reality of global warming / climate change, and question some of the claims that are being made to support the theories, rather than constantly being shouted down, long my it continue.

Our natural resources such as Oil, coal and gas reserves are dwindling, and will run out in the near future.

Could this whole Global warming / climate change myth just be the start of a way to get people to change their lifestyles and accept the end of cheap power and cheap goods that we appreciate today. By using this whole tactic, it makes people use less, and also makes people more willing to change whereas traditionally, people are often relucant to do so.

I think we should recycle as much as possible, reduce our wastage of natural resources etc, but not because of climate change fears, but rather because there is only a limited amont available to man to use, we should be making every effort to try to preserve as much as possible for as long as possible, once something goes into landfill, it loses its usefulness.

Green technology is often nowhere as green as it is made out to be.
A Toyota Prius, hailed as a green solution to our car travel takes far more energy etc to produce, it has been calculated that to get back to zero for this extra energy, you would have to drive 60,000 miles using just electric power, the car has a range of just 1.5 miles using electricity alone! - thats before you consider the harmful impact of obtaining the raw materials needed such as mining mercury for the batteries - not as green after all!

These climatalogists really know what they are talking about don't they. Snow to become of the thing of the past 10 years ago apparently in Britain, yeah righto. I am sure our kids have no idea what snow is.

And as always with the climatologists a little caveat at the end you notice to. Pretty much saying well sometimes completely the opposite will happen to what I am claiming so that I just cover myself for all eventualities
