If everyone including the shop lifters know about code 5 then its no longer a code and why not just announce "we have a shoplifter".

i have always thought that too. when i worked in retail we had 'code 5' for theft, i said at the time why code 5 and was told it is a universal code

Hardly anoyone uses that anymore. It is all done on Townlink radios. Sounds like the shop in question is not only tight but way behind the times.

When i worked in retail we had a completely useless security guard in our small store, he was brought in for a few weeks near christmas as we were having problems with shoplifters at the time ( the store had no cctv or normal security and so few staff it made it impossible to stop a shoplifter )

The guard spotted a group of 3 known shoplifters and instead of either observing what he did or making it obvious to the shoplifter that he was being followed / watched.

What he did was to go upstairs to where the manager was, and i then recieved a phone call to say to watch these thieves as they might be looking to steal, But by then they had jumped up onto either end of the entertainments counter and had helped themselves to a mobile phone on display there, whiule another was trying to nick computer games from the other end of the counter.

I said i needed urgent help and they took 5 minutes to come to the shop floor and hadn't even rung the police after i said what they were up to when they rang down to warn me.

We only had a bell to ring for assistance, but we had no staff on the shop floor to answer it!!!

You should have left the shop floor and let them get on with it. then report your guard for putting you in harms way.

Unsurprisingly, we didn't have the same guard back again, unfortunately we didn't get any more guards in after that either.

I left soon after that anyway, The management were just as bad as the guard, by nmot coming down when there was a problem in store, There was 2 on the sales floor and 3 upstairs!!

When working at Cheltenham as a steward, our code name was 'Mr Walker'.

Mr Walker has left the stadium - A fire
Mr Walker has lost his son - Fight etc. etc.

So what would the code name be if a real Mr Walker had lost his son and was waiting outside the stadium?

Today at work. The call was for code five, which means every male in the shop has to become a Security guard. I bolted out the door, but I decided to wait for back up. Because in this day and age, you just don't know what would happen. When I got back-up. Our temperaily Duty Manager caught up with him by his car putting in the goods into his boot, and we demanded the goods back. But I've missed one thing out, this man walked out with £140 worth of goods. He handed over the goods, then started walking with us. But then pegged it out of the car-park. He left the car open. In the car, there was a baby buggy, and baby car-seat.

So imagine this. The Son- "So what did you do today Daddy?"
Daddy- " I went shopping Son."

I don't get it?

So a bloke stole £140 worth of shopping and got caught - yes that is quite stupid. However he did a bolt? That sounds quite intelligent to me and quite stupid on your behalf you letting him get away!

So police in Brighton are looking for a man who drives that has also has a small child. Well wouldn't worry Brightonians the police are bound to find him based on that description. The streets will be safe once again!

Get the manager to join Townlink and leave it to people who get paid to do it. if he is too skinflint to do that I would say it is his own fault people are walking out with £140 worth of his stock.

What was the code used over the tannoy at the snowy, abandoned Norwich FA Cup game a few years back? Something to do with Mr Brown and his chocolate trousers wasn't it? Or have I just gone a bit mad?
