Strange to be dissappointed not to win against top of the table! Not been like that for years.

Just got back, and yes you are right, although strange, I'm very disappointed not to have won today. We were playing the much better football, and their goal came so against the run of play it was unbelievable.

Poor old Tank trudged manfully up for at least a dozen corners - and the ball came within about a dozen yards of him precisely ONCE. Something the corner-takers could work on in training maybe...

Match report from the afternoon away draw versus Brighton & Hove Albion

Scunthorpe relinquished a second-half advantage but the league leaders were grateful in the end to take a point away from mid-table Brighton.

The surprise package of League One were below their best, even though they managed to stretch their unbeaten run to a club record 16 games.

Brighton had the edge in a first half littered with free-kicks and they almost took the lead moments before the break.

A corner from Dean Cox was nodded goalwards by Adam El-Abd and Joel Lynch had a close-range header blocked on the line.

Brighton continued to take the game to Scunthorpe after the break.

The visitors had another escape when a header from Alex Revell was pushed out by keeper Joe Murphy and both Lynch and Guy Butters just failed to force in the rebound.

Scunthorpe's 25-goal marksman Billy Sharp had a frustrating afternoon. He had just a second-half booking to show for his efforts, but his partner Jermaine Beckford came to the rescue by giving them a flattering 65th minute lead with a superb solo effort.

The on-loan Leeds forward squeezed the ball through Butters' legs before slotting his sixth goal in ten games.

Brighton deservedly levelled seven minutes later when Revell headed on for Bas Savage to lift the ball over Murphy for his fourth goal in his last seven starts.

But an entertaining match ended in acrimony when Scunthorpe midfielder Matthew Sparrow had already been booked for a second-half foul when he was sent off in stoppage time for a bad tackle on substitute Joe Gatting.

Brighton defender El-Abd went down clutching his face moments later with a theatrical reaction which angered the Scunthorpe players.

Captain Andrew Crosby, a former Brighton player, refused to shake hands with El-Abd at the final whistle.

How Adkins saw it, from Scunthorpe premtv:

http://www.scunthorpe-united.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10442~998697,00.html

--------
Iron manager Nigel Adkins was pleased to take a point from his side's game at Brighton after his side rode their luck at times to earn a club record 16th game without defeat.

United went ahead through Jermaine Beckford early in the second half, but the home team soon levelled through Bas Savage and could have scored more had they being sharper in front of goal and taken their chances.

Adkins said: "This was a great day for us. We gained a valuable point and it helped us set a fantastic record for our club.

"Brighton were a very well organised, very competitive side so we're not underestimating the point we've taken. Nottingham Forest came down to Brighton recently and got nothing so we're very please about what we've done."
