It's off topic but thought I would flag this documentary on Slowdive for those interested. Have not watched it yet - could be tripe.

Had a great night seeing Leftfield at the Forum, Kentish Town.

Utterly mind blowing......

Did you go fri or sat?

I went Fri, and while very good, didnt rate as good as Brixton a couple of years ago, which was as you say Utterly mind blowing.. I was up in gods, which wouldn't have been as good as down in the pit of course..

I understand them wanting to focus on new stuff, but really, aren't we all hanging on for some big hitter's from the past too - Notably missing - Song For life, Afro, release the pressure etc etc..

I went to a place called Tapping the Admiral in Castle Road near Kentish Town West before The Replacements about 10 minutes from the Roundhouse a former CAMRA pub of the year and they had Dark Star and Hastings on tap. Am considering that for tomorrow.

Was about to write a post asking for pub recommendations near the Roundhouse for Wed night but then came across this post. Sounds good to me.

I went Saturday night, and was down in the pit, got quite close to the front too.

Didn't recognise too much from Leftism, though they (or is it just he?) played several from Rythm and Stealth, including a quality Chant of Poor Man, and of course, Phat Planet at the end.

Back in Sussex
I saw The Cat Empire at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday evening.

Excellent stuff as always - I think they raised their game for the venue.

Can I officially request a review of this one, please? True Thrush is one of my favourite singles ever. I just wish it wasn't called that, in the same way I wish Crystal Castles hadn't decided on the title Pap Smear.

Not great at writing long reviews but I really enjoyed it. Haven't seen him for a while so haven't yet grown tired of his schtick. He's toned the talking and silliness down a little bit - he did about 3 or 4 heavy audience participation songs and a few monologues, but a lot less than he did last time I saw him in London. No human tunnel out of the venue and down the road either! New songs worked really well live. Addition of love drummer, rather than that weird Wham City ensemble he was touring with, worked really well. Feel the lightning was a highlight, as was a run through USA. Venue was perfect business - not awkwardly quiet but enough space to get beer, go for a wee and generally have a bit of wiggle room. Hate The Haunt so much when it's sold out thanks to its stupid shape which means everyone is bottle necked at the back. Really nice to go to a gig where everyone is dancing and enjoying themselves - been to so many where fun easy to dance to music is met with statue like solemnity. Dan Deacon is good at getting the crowd going and it's actually quite a rare experience for me with the gigs I go to nowadays.

Just been told I'm being taken along to see Kevin Morby at The Hope and Ruin tomorrow night. Saw a bit of him at Primavera and he seemed ok. Need to check out the album. Think the last gig I saw at The Hope was Women - amazing band and amazing night!

Fiveways
Jaki Liebezeit?

Correct, with Hans Joachim Irmler. A quite extraordinary night of krautrock. Watching Jaki drum brought the sound of Can fully into perspective. He basically doesn't use his feet. He only had four drums, one of which was a bass drum, and he constructs his rhythm from them. Minimal use of cymbals too. They played five songs for about an hour, with some glorious swathes of sound from Irmler -- no samples or modern stuff, just analogue.
A bargain at £13.

Wow. Sounds great. Do they go under a band name? what should I look out for?
