Then I shall I shall get there early to check them out.

I'm sacrificing the FA Cup 4th round for this one. Enjoy the Fall

Yeah it's Oli - plays in Sea ******* as well if you know them (though I don't think they're anywhere near as doomy as SB.) Given the pedigree of the people involved I'd expect them to be good.

That Oathbreaker record is one of the best \m/ records I've heard in a long time btw. Would have made my top 20 for last year if I'd got round to doing one.

I've had a listen, they sound good. Doomy, but as you say not as doomy as Sea B*****d, I look forward to them.

That Oathbreaker record is immense, glad they upgraded the gig.

Considering a jaunt to Bexill for Alexis Taylor in March but I'm not sure if I like that Piano album enough to warrant the trek.

I am delighted to announce that I have tickets to see the mighty...

ROY WOOD

....in a few weeks. Flipping expensive but this is Roy. Live. In Brighton.

Can't. Wait.

Roy Wood & his Rock ‘N Roll band performing all his classic hits, I Can Hear The Grass Grow, Flowers In The Rain, Blackberry Way, California Man, See My Baby Jive, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday….and much more.

Born in Birmingham, His first instrument was drums, which is the only instrument he has ever had any tuition on! Influenced by Hank Marvin's sound, he took up playing guitar, and formed a group called The Falcons at the age of fourteen.

Roy had been writing songs, and at seventeen he became founder of The Move, who went on to enjoy multiple chart successes with songs all written by Roy himself, including Flowers In The Rain, which reached No. 2 in the chart, and was the first record to be played on BBC Radio One. Also Night Of Fear, Fire Brigade and I Can Hear The Grass Grow were all top five hit singles, and also a number one record in the British singles chart Blackberry Way.

In 1970, Roy teamed up with fellow Birmingham songwriter Jeff Lynne, who joined The Move for their final two albums. The final single recorded by The Move during this period was California Man.

Roy had an ambition over a number of years, to form a classically based band featuring live strings instead of the conventional guitar line up. Together with Jeff, they formed The Electric Light Orchestra.

How they configure this gig will make a huge difference. The show I saw had us all sat around him and it was incredibly intimate; I literally sat two feet from him and appear in all the press photos and the gallery of the gigs website. He chatted to us, asked for requests, offered a duet with anyone who knew the key chords to Hallelujah (he said he'd sing if someone played the piano), took a request from me, and did a range of tracks from the Piano album, Hot Chip and random other stuff. Truly wonderful evening. If it's just him on a stage it might not work as well.

He has also just released a companion album which you play at the same time as the original....I do hope I read the promo stuff correctly.

Interesting. He's playing the cafe bar there, not the main room ,so it may well be as you've described. It's only 14 quid or something so could be well worth it.

A Sunday evening in the cafe bar overlooking the sea in Bexhill.......sounds a winner to me.

Are you still doing Brighton Noise? (I had a look online and it seems a bit empty.) If not, can you recommend a few up-coming gigs or Brighton bands that are worth seeing (Cold Pumas? anything Tom House-related or -similar/label-mates -- you mentioned a band/guy who runs a local label that's connected to TH), ideally at Green Door Store: I did buy a ticket for Josephine Ohrn on the basis it was at GDS, and the swines have just moved it to The Haunt.

Tom runs Endless Records - https://endless-records.bandcamp.com/
The other local label I'm always banging on about is Faux Discx which is run by Dan Reeves of Cold Pumas/ Soft Walls - https://fauxdiscx.bandcamp.com/. It's been on an amazing run of great releases for a long time now, they put out the Sweet Williams record last year.

The website fell by the wayside a while back and we're focusing on live promotions now, the next of which is this one - https://www.facebook.com/events/252434868511992

If there's one upcoming show I'd recommend, it's this one - http://www.tickx.co.uk/event/443697/carla-dal-forno/. Carla Dal Forno was in the upper reaches of Theatre of Trees run down from last year and deservedly so. Sweet Williams in its new guise (Tom solo, acoustic with a harmonium) is supporting.

Tatty Seaside Town's all dayer is coming up at Green Door on 11th Feb, headlined by The Rebel (ex- Country Teasers) and a really good supporting cast featuring local and national acts.

Thought Forms are bloody ace - http://www.songkick.com/concerts/28410409-thought-forms-at-hope-and-ruin

Omni/ Cold Pumas. Omni did one of my favourite records of last year - http://www.songkick.com/concerts/28560204-omni-at-green-door-store

Esben make their first return to Brighton since the release of their 4th album - http://www.songkick.com/concerts/28368329-esben-and-the-witch-at-hope-and-ruin

AK/DK are returning to promote their new album. I'm DJing the gig as well! http://www.songkick.com/concerts/28928589-akdk-at-hope-and-ruin

King Champion Sound are the new project of G.W Sok, the longstanding former frontman of The Ex. Supported by Slum of Legs - http://www.songkick.com/concerts/29019624-king-champion-sounds-at-prince-albert

As for local stuff, I've been a bit busy with real life stuff in recent times but stuff that's doing it for me at the moment

Porridge Radio - https://porridgeradio.bandcamp.com/track/lemonade (One for the Indie-Pop thread I reckon.)
Penelope Isles - https://penelopeisles.bandcamp.com/album/comfortably-swell
Inwards - https://inwards.bandcamp.com/album/feeling-so-fun-reality
Mount Sinai and The Sun Band is the new band from Mark Aaron (ex- Black Black Hills and Rooster Cole) - Nothing recorded yet but I understand they will be fleshing out Mark's solo stuff - https://roostercole.bandcamp.com/album/bird-dont-sing-ep
I saw Jungfrau play for the first time in ages a few months ago and they have morphed into a modern day Swans like experience, really intense. Unfortunately there is no recorded evdience of this new direction yet.
Map 71's record was last year was ace - https://map71.bandcamp.com/
Broker's new record was predictably brilliant - https://broker.bandcamp.com/
Red Deer People have been slowly morphing into Brighton's most underrated live band - https://reddeerpeople.bandcamp.com/album/fun-fun-fun-ep
Kemper Norton is our unappreciated gem. This one featured in Quietus' albums of the year - https://fandf.bandcamp.com/album/toll

Dream Wife at the Green Door Store were fantastic last night. Quite a nice write up about them here

Apparently set up as a fake art project for a college, and ended up being a genuinely good band.
