Beach House for me tonight. Not massively excited as I've always found them a fairly uninspiring live act. A real shame that the gig was moved from De la Warr, my favourite local venue, to All Saints Hove, which is a nice building but terrible venue for live music, even though it is a leisurely 5 minute stroll from my house!

Glad to see Preoccupations (formerly Viet Cong who changed name for PC reasons) are back in Brighton in November - missed the last few tickets by a matter of moments for their last gig at Green Door Store and have been limited to a solitary performance at Primavera since then.

Come on then, tell us about Primavera.

Television at the De La Warr tomorrow night.

Received an email to say Acid Mothers in Sept and Goat in Oct. both in Brighton.

I am also off to see Television.

I went to Field Day yesterday. That was fun.

Thurston Moore rocked it, loads of mad guitar doodling, a good vibe.

Brian Jonestown Massacre were excellent, as always. Looking forward to seeing them again next week at The Concorde.

John Grant was...well, he was him, as you'd expect. Cheerful, funny, smiling - and that voice! He is always great to watch and to listen to. No Glacier though, which was a shame.

And then PJ Harvey. What can you say? Her band is superb, and she is just wonderful. One of the best gigs I have seen in a very long time. She focused on the recent album, a few from Let England Shake and a few old faves. Nothing from Stories from the City... though, unfortunately.

A really good day out. No loo queues, no beer queues, and Sierra Nevada on draught. A lovely pulled pork bap, street parking nearby (a friend drove) and home by 12.30.

Mbongwana Star. I don't think I have seen a group of people quite so happy to be doing what they are doing. An outstanding performance and live they were really something. How they kept going in the heat wearing, jackets and all, is beyond respect. At the end they seemed to be genuinely greatful for the audience response. One of the best live evenings so far this year.

Ha. I really enjoyed it when the bass player took his leather jacket off, only to reveal that he was wearing a suit jacket underneath.
We had a great time too. I was amazed that the guitarist created that array of sounds, and thought there'd be three or more musicians necessary to do that.

I havent danced quite so emphatically, so enjoyably for a very long time. I was at the front and nobody stopped dancing all night. What a band! A thrill to be involved and probably the coolest dude bassist I've seen for a very long while. Gig of the year, no question. I utterly honked afterwards.

Help an old man out: what does this mean?

TBF, given the average temperature in DR Congo at the moment, they were probably a bit chilly.

Ha, I'd love to say it's street speak but I'm probably as old as you. I merely meant I stank as it was so hot in there and I was dripping in my own honking sweat.

Everything I wore went straight in the wash bin! I don't know what anyone else thinks but it did not seem that loud last night and I have not got the usual next day ear buzz. Not that I'm complaining.

We're doing the 4th of our biannual DAY events in just over 2 weeks, featuring the best of Brighton's musical talent. This may just be the most exciting one yet.

https://www.facebook.com/events/1560794130902852/?ti=cl

In addition, if anyone has caught Sweet Williams, Tom (ex-Charlottefield) House's current project, they'll be aware that they've developed into the finest guitar band in Brighton. We managed to book them to play in October in the tiny upstairs space at The Quadrant. Gonna be an amazing show.

Thanks for this. I've tried, but my techno-ignoramus self has failed, to access that Sweet Williams show. Can you let me know when, and I'll whack it in my diary.
