how many roads have the Green administration banned the private vehicle
.
Half the Lewes road for a a start.

and your ongoing posts stating your dislike of using public transport
Your correct I do not like public transport primarily due to the cost as a "occasional" user.

+ £4 odd for a single return journey to town and back is too expensive, I know I can make multi trips all day but I don't want to.
I want to go to where I want to go and back again, like most people do, but you have have to buy a all day saver.
Why can't we have just a simple return for £2.00

(you said you hate sitting among other people) .

Yes I do, I don't want to sit next to someone who ailments I know nothing about.

That to me would be a very good place to start with reducing cars on Brighton roads, i would say make it even cheaper and i am sure more would use public transport.

I was talking to a chap who lives off the Lewis road and his description of the route he now has to take just to get out of town up and down streets across campus car parks making rat runs all over the place the whole scheme is an ill thought out waste of tax payers money that is grinding Brighton to a halt

The drove (Falmer Road) Warren Road, race hill and Elm Grove is noticeable a lot more busy since the bus lane was made operational as users look for ways to circumnavigate the Lewes Road.

Eh?

Driving back home from the RSCH towards Lewes this afternoon (4.00pm), via Ovingdean and Falmer Road, I discovered that the queue at the Woodingdean crossroads amounted to ... THREE cars. Last Friday, it was FIVE cars.

At that time, Warren Road is always busy as the result of traffic building up during school going-home times. But carry on blaming Lewes Road, if you wish.

I think it's more 'Greens are anti-dangerous parking'.

As is the rest of the council.

There is absolutely nothing dangerous about parking on the pavements in Elm Grove. I have friends with prams and buggies who go up and down it every day and there's always plenty of room even with the cars parked up at 90 degrees to the road. A bigger problem is the rubbish dumping by students in the roads between Lewes Road and Upper Lewes Road.

I tell you what would really win favour with people though - if a bus ride into town and back for 3 people wasn't more expensive than getting a taxi. There's absolutely no justification for such high bus pricing. And please - none of this nonsense about 'all day fares'. I don't know anyone who's bought one of those and used it other than to get to town and then back again.

4 pm is too early try it from 5- 6.30. After 5.30 the tail back on the drove reaches the bypass.from the east and warren road stretches back to the race hill.
I know you won't believe it but in your capacity in transport I'm sure it will be brought to your attention eventually.
Traffic travelling in the other direction as you did is largely unaffected.
Where did you think the traffic was going to go? Or did you think they would all just sit on the Lewes road.
Isn't it obvious this going to happen, was it not considered?

Sounds pathetic but that's actually a fair point. I used to commute to Haywards Heath by train and would catch around ten colds per year. This reduced to maybe two when I started driving. Fortunately I work in Brighton now.

Given the PRIVATE bus company has the bus lanes built and paid for out of tax payers money it would seem reasonable that in return fares are kept at a low level. £4 is not low.

But the Greens ARE anti-motorist - well certainly anti petrol motorist. I know you deny it, and that my views are on the Greens are clear to all who see signatures, but the Greens are keen to lower / prevent car use. That is a fact. Now, if you think that's a good or bad thing is certainly up for debate !

You make it sound like reducing car use is a bad thing.

Of course they're all about reducing car use, principally because cars are heavy pollutants. Buses are bigger pollutants, of course, but not 85 times the pollutants (I use that number because that's how many a bus can hold). But to call them anti-car is way over-simplifying a complex consideration.

It's a bit like Oscar saying he's 'all for attack' being criticised as being 'anti-defence'.

Single-occupancy cars are an issue too. I think BoF highlighted earlier that. But there is a pervading opinion that one's car is one's fiefdom. This is highlighted by Programme Seller on here, who hates the notion of travelling with people. It's not everyone with that attitude, but he's by no means alone either.

Brighton has had a growing problem with traffic congestion for 30 years, and no-one has sought to tackle it. Finally, someone has had the balls to say 'Enough. We're going to encourage you (not force) to use public transport...' That ideology also happens to be in line with government policy, and is something every council is obliged to undertake.

I fully agree about bus fares.

Sadly, the bus company isn't there to win favour, it's there to make money.

I remember once having a conversation with a couple of councillors from Hartlepool about measures to tackle traffic congestion. All they would say was that the recession was affecting their local economy so much that they would have given their eye-teeth for Hartlepool town centre to see some traffic congestion.

But we did just do them big favour with the Bus only lane. Surely that could have been used as a bargaining chip to decrease fares

It's still making me laugh that since these new pointless fancy bus lanes have been installed the bus service has got even worse to areas where the bus uses Lewes road to get to... How does that work with a clear run?

Bus company thinking always focuses on reliability and frequency of service as being more important to passengers than fares. Non-passengers tend to be more interested in fares. As long as passenger numbers continue to rise (and that is still the case in Brighton and Hove), the bus company will be focused on frequency of service. Bus lanes have certainly encouraged frequencies to be improved.

Well, its all anecdotal, i've been out running and the traffic at 1pm was from the Woodingdean Crossroads back to Falmer Village - 1pm on an October weekday.

I note there are traffic monitoring strips across the ESCC section of the B2123

As I came back through Bevendean, I noticed the traffic was backing up from the top of Wilson Avenue back to Downland Rd.

Putting aisde the car vs bus vs cycle debate - there's a lot more traffic being put through a 'B' road(s) having been displaced from an 'A' road. That's not a great situation...
