The League One table if Leeds DIDN'T get their Golden Share...

With NSC being down all morning I've obviously had very little to do. So I thought I'd work out the League One table by expunging Leeds Utd completely, as if they'd never competed in the division this season. To do this, I have subtracted ALL the points picked up by everyone against Leeds this season. Here's how the table would look:

Swansea............Pts 86
Forest................Pts 78

Doncaster..........Pts 77
Carlisle.............. Pts 76
Southend...........Pts 72
Brighton.............Pts 68

Tranmere...........Pts 62
Walsall...............Pts 62
Northampton.....Pts 62
Oldham..............Pts 61
Huddersfield......Pts 60
Swindon............Pts 58
Leyton Orient....Pts 56
Bristol Rovers....Pts 53
Hartlepool..........Pts 52
Millwall...............Pts 52
Yeovil.................Pts 52
Crewe................Pts 49
Bournemouth.....Pts 47

Gillingham..........Pts 45
Cheltenham.......Pts 42
Port Vale............Pts 36
Luton.................Pts 32

So there you have it. Were it not for DIRTY Leeds, the Albion would be comfortably in 6th spot. The other two BIG differences is that Forest would leapfrog Donnie into 2nd, and Cheltenham (who picked up 6 points against Leeds), would swap places with Bornmuff in the relegation zone.

Dunno what this proves, but it passed half an hour.

*sigh*

*drums fingers*

Can someone explain to a bear of very little brain what a golden share is exactly?

Its basically the permission from the Football League to compete in their competition, which is required by all clubs. This permission was withdrawn from Leeds by the League last summer, and only given back when Leeds confirmed they'd accept the 15 point penalty, thus enabling them to compete in League One this season.

Course, being dirty Leeds, they were only lying about accepting the points deduction, and started proceedings to get them back as soon as the season started.

so by getting their 15 points back, leeds could have their golden share removed i take it??

to correct an important detail, it was given to the new club Leed Utd 2008 (or whatever). the old club is defunct.

i think this is significant in how things will play out, because as much as the FL made up the rules as they went along in imposing the 15pt deduction (the basis of Leeds challange), they also broke their own rules/practice in giving a new club the right to play in the League without going via the FA pyramid.

Well realistically theres no chance of that happening. But in theory, the Football League could consider it to be within their rights to cancel the points deduction and instead go back to removing the Golden Share. And if they DID - then this is how the table would look.

No.

I confused at what point the Golden Share is actually removed and given back. Wrexham continued playing for 18 months.

The manner in which Leeds came of administration doesn't seem that odd at all. Just that the Inland Revenue contested the decision (like they do all the time).

Controversially, I'm starting to see a little bit of hypocrisy on here regarding the points deduction. Many on here supported Wrexham's appeal against 10 points when they went into administration.

Could Leeds have done anything else - it was because of the League ruling on football creditors. Technically (to me) it looks like the league penalised Leeds for conforming with their own rules.

What needs to be looked at is the manner in which Leeds were apparently in a good financial situation then suddenly had to go into administration. They are also many questions regarding the debts owed to these offshore entities.

Anyway, the League have stuffed themselves a bit with this 15 points ruling.
It means they will have to apply it to other much smaller clubs as well in the future.
