I fear for the future, as economic inequality is spiralling out of control, and if it continues like it is it will ultimately kill the economy.

No it won't. Unlike socialism, free market economies tend to be around for the long run because they work.

if only parties tackled the tax system by simplifying and tightening it by complete reform and more taxes on assets than income. Then we could see a shift in who holds the wealth. Unrealistic due to both politicians and electorate demands. Parliamentary democracy doesn't offer either.

unrealisitic because it pretends wealth exists in its own right. green policies (as with many left wing ideas) destory or at best evaporate wealth. an asset that is taxed is less valuable, therefore the wealth assigned to owning it is reduced. once you tax everything to nothing you'll have nothing: yes we'll be equal but at a level similar to that of a bronze age farmer. thats ok for greens as thats what they want because they hold this is sustainable). they just dont tell us about the consequnces of this, i.e. no healthcare, no industry, no economy beyond barter.

You are still living in the 20th century.
You live in cuckoo land.

.... meanwhile 18 million people cannot afford adequate housing conditions
Where did you get that from?

We are sleepingwalking into a total social and economic collapse
Yet you've failed to come up with a solution. You're always telling us how we're doomed, but you have no workable alternative. You should spend your energy looking for a solution instead of repeating your tired phrases of a broken system.

it is only a matter of time before the entire system implodes
It's only a matter of time before the sun cools and life on this planet dies.

So just an extra £121billion EVERY year to find then. Phew! Had me worried for a minute.

Their manifesto is appalling and completely unelectable. I'm embarrassed for them, it's that bad. A horrible bag of half-baked Marxist claptrap.

The Robin Hood Tax should take of that very comfortably. Oh and getting rid of the diabolical trident. Oh and actually being able to fine the starbucks, amazon the same tax as everyone else does to use our roads, our hospitals etc.

The richest people would just leave, and we'd get less tax. It would work if we could do it on a global scale, but we can't.

Oh and getting rid of the diabolical trident.
That's not one of their 'policies' being ridiculed.

Oh and actually being able to fine the starbucks, amazon the same tax as everyone else does to use our roads, our hospitals etc.
Everyone wants amazon and starbucks etc to pay, but coming up with the legislation that works is not so easy.

They have absolutely ridiculous policies. You "may" be able to laud them on green principles, but the practice is laughable. Their policies on anything non-green related, well, infantile would be an insult to infants.
Indeed. I quite like a lot of the sentiments but it is undoubtedly Sixth Form Common Room politics for people who haven't really thought (or aren't capable of thinking) about complex issues. However I completely understand their appeal to well-off, smug but pig-ignorant people with simplistic viewpoints.

A Green government would be fun though, seeing as they don't have whips.

It is relevant as it shows where the Green Party intends to get money from which is what everyone seems to be dismissing the Green Party for. It is not like any one else is suggesting anything other than autistry thus allowing the richer to get richer and the poorer to get poorer is it?

Well I vote for them because... And no they're not great but I think a shake up is needed towards the left rather than the right

In the around the last 100 years this has happened which doesn't seem sustainable to me:

1.) Population - 2-7 billion
2.) Rainforests - 16% to 6%. Only 1% of Rainforest plant species have been studied and from that comes 25% of medicine.
3.) Topsoil - Has eroded by 50% worldwide
4.) Seas - pollution and overfishing means large ocean creatures have decreased by 80%
5.) Ice caps - melted more in the last 20 years than in the last 10,000
6.) Coral Reefs - Decreased by 50%
7.) Every living system in the biosphere is in decline - water, soil, biodiversity, forestry, oceans etc - 55.000 species each year go extinct

You can easily look up all that stuff, I got most from my uni library when I had to do an assignment on climate change.

I agree very worrying. Do a course in the University of Life for a few years and i think you will find that the Greens are not the answer.

percentage of households which fall below society's minimum standard of living has increased from 14% to 33% in 30 years, and this is increasing every year,

If this were true then we'd see key markers like longevity, literacy, height etc etc falling but the reverse is happening. Your apocalyptic vision isn't new, Marx and Engels were saying the same things 170 years ago when capitalism really was unbridled and there was no safety net for the poor. If capitalism can survive the Great Depression and Wall Street Crash, if it can survive two world wars, if it can defeat Soviet communism then it's a pretty robust system and one that will undoubtedly be around for centuries to come.

Sorry about that.

It would be lovely to hear some of the views from UKIP other than the direct feed from Nigel Farage, maybe it's because he can't trust anyone in the party other than himself ?

Are you aware that France's socialist government has a Robin Hood tax but is abolishing it next month because it doesn't work? In fact it was extremely counter-productive. And this from a country that historically has had high taxes.

Plenty of other threads to shoehorn ukip in. This is about the Greens and perhaps the other main parties that oppose. You're obsessed with ukip :)

Funnily enough I'm not, plenty here have swallowed up Nigel's act though.

I'm voting Green in the next elections because Caroline Lucas is just about the best constituency MP around today and I'm sick of party apparatchiks from both the main parties filling Parliament but if her party were anywhere near power I'd rather lose a kidney than help elect a Marxist government.

If I could so would I - but she is a rarity - a good MP and decent campaigner with some intelligence. Now potter over to my area, Hove, and the Green candidate is an utter loon who isn't just on a different planet but in a different solar system. I also struggle to take any Green seriously after their last four years in B&H.

A very well made point, please suggest alternatives to the world putting this in practice? Its just there does not seem to be any other suggestions being made by any other parties as how to end austerity.

Voting Green won't solve any of that that though. What you need to do is vote for a party who plan to exterminate 90% of the human race. They'll be no man-made climate change if there are no men to change it!

(Hey, with my ability to think up simplistic solutions maybe I should join the Greens!)
